The race is on (pink Caesalpinia vs. cool weather)
Comments (8)Yup, pink for sure, Kevin and all, But here's the bottom line: the weather is still GORGEOUS and the dumb plant is already shutting down. The youngest flower buds are already aborting and the new flowers are tired, tired tired. This is the same routine as last year. I really don't think I could recommend this variety for our climate when the red (and yellow 'Phoenix' cultivar) of C. pulcherrima has been blooming for months and months and months locally. I'm so displeased in fact, I ripped it out and replaced with with a pink Malvaviscus drummondii that was needing a home. Now THAT'S a performer here, LOL. Happy gardening all, Grant...See MoreMexican Red Bird Of Paradise
Comments (3)The common names of this genus of plants are very confusing, so if you are referring to Caesalpinia pulcherrima, here is what to do: cut to the ground in Spring when the weather starts turning warm and after the last threat of frost. It should grow back fully by the time June rolls around. If you have a different plant let us know, the pruning scenario may be different. Oh, Im not sure about the seeds, Im not so good with those... Here is a link that might be useful: Caesalpinia genus...See MoreRed/Mexican Bird of Paradise question
Comments (3)Mexican bird of paradise will not live more than about a year in even the largest container. I put one in a huge pot, and it got root-bound in no time and then died. They make extremely invasive roots and require a large area for growing. If you live in an area with frost, you might be able to handle one of those, but I would never put one in the ground....See Moremexican bird of paradise....needing lotsa help....

But it is for the hot Sun too Saudi seeds started sprouting like that was in 3 days pretty in my seat I got from the the truth these were spent scenes meaning they were shaking in the pod eat the dark ones are even better. Open the pod get your CDL but Amanda nice. Very nice soil put them in about 1 inch down Miracle Grow potting soil.by super bloom trust me you have you some sprouts. The picture in my message is my tree its 7 foot tall and everything seems wonderful --it's very healthy except I didn't prune it downt fiery while.it was growing. Now its long and lanky big cluster at top and it kind kind of leans towards the sunshine because my neighbor's tree blocking half the yard wher I plan.to.build a gazebo...See Moregrant_in_arizona
