What did I get myself into?
Comments (7)Velvett, I just joined this club today, and I'm not even sure if you will ever see anything I have wrote. I can't seem to find things that I write. But I am learning to write to others now. So bare with me. I have a Vrieseas (Bromeliad) plant too. And I never had one before, I am also trying to find out what to do with the plant. As you said: What did I get myself into?? I am waiting for my plant to have Pups? I think? Not to sure, but I been reading about this thing all over the Web... Seems that's what they do, and I think my Mother Plant will die some day too. I don't like the sounds of that. But I guess these plants don't grow a new blossom, (or what ever you call that thing in the middle of the plant.) I would send you a photo of mine, but I haven't got that part figured out yet... maybe someday?? My plant is also called a Charlotte.....See MoreI'm frozen and I can't get myself going...
Comments (12)I sewed some puckers in the back of a quilt I did last year. I'm generally a perfectionist, but I'm also very impatient & HATE "the ripper". As long as the pleat wasn't on the front or huge, I let it go. It was my first largish size quilt I quilted all by machine with a free motion foot (hexagons, triangles). I consider it my learning quilt since I learned a few things NOT to do, but it's still beautiful on both sides...the back is batik & disguises the puckers. I'm impatient & sewed too quick at times & therefore pushed (maybe shoved?) the quilt thru the machine. I also wasn't patient enough to flatten & adjust the quilt layers each & everytime I had to turn it, so with each & every turn, there's pucker potential. This will also happen if you don't pin or baste good enough. Again...I didn't baste as good as I should have. Ran out of pins. I also like the applique idea. But for me, unless it's a really large pleat or hole, that just adds more time to the project when I could be just done with this one & starting another one. ;) My scrapbooking motto is: "If it doesn't look right...glitter it". Glitter will fix just about any flaw or add some spice to a scrapbook page. I haven't quite figured out how to tactfully add glitter to my quilts. :)...See MoreI am not to be trusted out and about by myself....what a looser!
Comments (24)Errrr Patti dear.....loser is spelled with one "O"! So see your looser not a loser, its not as bad as you think! Just trying to make you feel better, no thanks necessary! Bwaaahahaha These are all very funny! Patti can take comfort knowing she's not alone! Oh wait a minute, I might fit in here too! I was shopping at a local store, they have a phone on a pole in two different locations in the store...I guess for employees if they get a call?? Anyway, I was walking down the aisle in the store, these two gals are unloading frieght and stocking a shelf. I am walking past the phone and it starts ringing. The phone is like 6 ft from where they were working, they kept working!!!!! I thought geeze can't one of you guys answer the damn phone? Its ringing off the hook, THEN I realized I'd turned my cell phone on when I left the house and it was in my purse ringing!!!!! OMG was my face red! I always got a hard time from the girls because we never had the phone on when we left the house, they'd try and call us and couldn't get us. LOL So I turned it on and see what happens?? LOL...See MoreAbout to transplant some succulents. Am I doing this right?
Comments (29)Bonnie just to let you know that it is usually better to start a new thread especially if the older one has many posts and probably plenty of answers to original poster - and may not be read as often. There is a reason why plants are sold on clearance, and for such low price: most often it is a poor condition of the plant. Stores don't really know (or may have no time) how to care about different plants and succulents suffer usually more since they do not like to sit in wet soil. All plants in the stores get watered at the same time. Buying so many plants in poor condition makes it so much harder to save them - in very short time, you already lost 2. On top of that, the moon cacti are actually 2 plants: one on the bottom is a rootstock (more vigorous plant) and one on top - the colored one - is grafted on it. Colored plant can't survive on it's own since it lacks chlorophyl. It will grow grafted, but quite often doesn't grow more than few years (there are exceptions, but not that many). The soil they are in is likely not so much week, but water-retaining. It is probably peat that either stays too wet or too dry - very difficult to keep right moisture. Succulents need good drainage. You need to read about better mix to use for them. This thread has posts that mention better mix (even a photo of it), and you can search the forum for many, many more. Getting proper mix and containers ready ahead of time would help, so all the plants could be repotted as soon as possible. I am not trying to 'beat you up', just stating few facts. It is difficult to resist a bargain, but dealing with so many plants in poor condition isn't easy....See Morealabamatreehugger 8b SW Alabama
