Okay, so I'd really love to experiment with a clumping hedge in the sun, but certain websites are strongly warning off those in the hot and humid SE from all clumpers all together. When I think of hot and humid, I think of New Orleans, or Charleston, or even Atlanta- Not Asheville, but I guess its all relative.

I was really hoping to try a Chusquea, but now I'm afraid to try a Fargesia, and even Thamnocalamus, which sounds the most sun-tolerant, scares me.

I probably just don't get it, but how can Chusquea 'Cana Prieta' like wet feet but be averse to humidity? It seems contradictory to me.

But then, I don't get why the PNW seems to be such a shangri-la of a climate when its associated with frequent rain?

SO, I know it will be a challenge, but maybe somebody can help me sort these things out and encourage me....

Speaking of needed encouragement- I'm going to post again about root pruning.

Thanks.
