Ok...So, I bought some more bulbs!!

Well I had to go to HD to get some Acryllic spray paint. Funny, how I had to park by the garden section (Forgive her Lord, she knows not what she do). Well, there in baskets were a few amaryllis bulbs. I found a really nice Apple Blossom with healthy roots and green leaves forming. YUP, I bought it! Then I spied Sprekelia Formosissma, never grew one before. Yep, bought that one too! On my way out....after I got the spray paint, I passed the rack of "Orchids-In-A-Bag". I have tons of orchids-never bought one in a bag, though....As I was picking through them I spied one with two spikes coming up and one with a FAT bloom. Gosh, I had to buy it otherwise it would just keep curling up in that plastic baggie-thingy and the bloom would just fall off. It's a Cattleya, Otaara Jane Fumye "Hawaii" Purple. After seeing the site below, I don't feel bad I paid $14 for it. I potted everything up and tucked 'em in with all the other plants on my patio...hubby will never know the difference!

The stealth attack approach is very effective once you have a jungle, sorry for the lapsus, I mean a "fully stocked garden", significant others never find out about the new additions, itÂ´s so effective that it even works with fishing tackle.

raul..you had to make me laugh! We love to fish but Hubby hasn't figured out how to truly 'hide' his new fishing tackle! lol, maybe I should sign him up here, but then he'd learn all my tricks, too!

Double Delight - you will love it. The only negative is that it gets double centers if you overfertilize. Good repeat, about 4 feet here. Mine is an older plant, when younger, it was taller Just Joey - I love it but it is not reliably hardy here. I plant it again and again hoping to find the right sheltered spot! Love it but can't seem to keep it going. Fussy! Never grown one over 8 inches tall. Peace - a classic, good rose for me. About four feet for me. Repeat is ok, not as much as others in my garden. Medallion - I like it and it has been a good rose for me in my garden. Not my fave, though. 4 feet and a somewhat stingy bloomer here. Europeana - a nice rose, lots of bloom throughout the season. A shorter, low growing rose. Always in bloom. I haven't grown Pascali. Just not a big fan of white roses. I've bought the package roses at Menard's for years. To give them a good start, soak them for at least 24 hours. They will do better if you put them in pots to start, then transfer them to the garden when they have shown some good growth.

Your put your pictures in awesome order, they just kept getting better and better. What a great build-up!!! Ditto on that Raspberry Sundae. I'm going to have to move my puny one that I've had for three years. Your Lakeside Cindy Cee may be small now, but it is an awesome hosta, and a pretty good grower. I swore I was done buying hostas last year, but I've managed to get a few more than a few already this year. I was good today, I bought shoes and clothes instead of hostas! Gesila My DH had to get Neptune. I haven't decided where to put it but my initial thoughts are to put it in a pot.

If you have a very cool place such as a basement or cellar, the daffies should be fine. Refrigeration is used when the planting zone is actually too warm for proper stratification, or to delay development or sprouting. Look on the label to see if the producer has had them under refrigeration - if it doesn't say, they weren't. You don't have to wait until fall to plant, the bulbs can go into a prepared bed now. The worst that will happen is that they will sprout some leaves... and you might want to put a fluffy mulch over those leaves after frost, although if you don't mulch and it does freeze hard, those leaves will die back --- and the bulb will try again next spring. Most daffies are very determined to bloom in the spring, thus they send up someleaves to check the weather, before sending up the blooming stem. If you wish to add bulb food to their planting area, they will really like it, although you can wait until spring to spread it. Very, very important is that their soil have good drainage... they will struggle in clayey soil and thrive in sandy soil. If the soil *is* clay, put a couple inches of crushed oyster shells or coarse sand under the bulbs when planted. That will provide drainage for several years, and you will probably have to lift and divide the bulbs just about the same time the shells or sand need replenishing. My 15 year old niece has been reading cookbooks, and asking for them as Christmas/birthday gifts, since she was about 8. She can now tell you more about world history and cultures than one ever gets out of formal education. In addition, she's a darned good cook who first started getting paid for cooking/baking when she was 12. She's the one who has planned and will be masterminding our family's Thanksgiving meal. I read cookbooks, too, but only vaguely remember those cooks.

Well, if you find out he bought more tackle it only means he doesnÂ´t have enough to "mask" the new additions; my now wife knew I had a lot of tackle ( and I mean a lot ) so new additions appear inadvertedly, she canÂ´t find out if I added 20 or 30 more crankbaits to the arsenal when you have more than 600 of them ( Hey, I love to purchase tackle and plants ), also, my wife passes out at around 10 PM, I donÂ´t mean she goes to sleep, I mean she just dies. ItÂ´s only matter of waiting and anywhere from 10:30 PM to 2-3 AM itÂ´s time to add the new treasures to my existing collection. BTW, tackle purchases are adressed and delivered at my monÂ´s house, bulb purchases also follow that path, havenÂ´t figured out how to disguise my visits to the nursery so in that case I just tell her that IÂ´m going to the nursery and that she can come if she wants.

Well, I also have orchids ( I guess you already imagined that ), mostly Lady Slippers ( Paphiopedilum ), Phanaelopsis & Cattleyas, got several Cattleya "Irene Finney" and those have a heavenly scent. You are going to need a bigger pot for that Cattleya, they have sympodial growth and every year they "walk" towards the edge of the pot as the new pseudobulbs form.

Hey Raul-Cattleyas are my favorite. I have a couple dozen. I upsized the pot when I brought her home. I was hoping for a fragrance from this Jane Fumye as promised...but as yet none detected. I notice most of my fragrant orchids are strongest in the morning, so I will be sure to sniff it out tomorrow.
