Gone into foliage now, Jewel was just splendid in January - fragrant, but above all she was like no other, holding her blooms upward all the time, and the flowers were like true lilies - and that lovely little red centre. Blooming with 2 scapes simultaneously, it was a delightful show. So petite - about 8inches - the third scape broke the rule and grew to almost 20 inches - with only 3 blooms (I wonder why that happens).

I'm so new to Hippies and I'm just enjoying all of them. My Dancing Queen, my first Amaryllis, I guess would always be my first love. She always gives me 2 flower scapes. Second will be Papilio...very exotic. For simplicity would be Green Goddess. From simple to exotic they are all just so beautiful. {{gwi:389747}}

Your papilio exhibits a GREAT performance.
What I lately became aware of - is that there exists several clone of H.papilio, which but on a closer view suddenly differ, yes, considerably in their principal performance, particularly as regards to the partition of these burgundy veins which seem so much like being digged into the waxxy flesh of the flower segments.
1) The best - at least according to my point of view are these which have the outermost veins ORIGINating very close to the edges in order to run in parallel with the respective edges. Or better - I suddenly realize that: These outermost veins close to the edges are present in any
H.papilio BUT: They differ a lot according to the clone and they are thin and virtually absent in the "weaker" ones...

2) On the other hand, the innermost veins are very long and they do not SO MUCH tend to be shorter than the more distant veins. So there does not originate a central green gap which broadens towards the tips of the segments.

Both features are pertfectly realized in your papiliogene treasure. - Congratulations I transmit you, mixed with a little bit of melancholy because I am so heavily involved in breeding with THIS cultivar - and believing that MINE is beautifull too, but.. a little bit... inferior to yours.

Well thank you so much Hans for appreciating my Papilio. I just recently acquired this last November and was quite disappointed when it arrived. Compared to the other Amaryllis bulbs that I had, this Papilio bulb was a lot smaller, just 21 cm big. After I planted it though, it gave me 2 scapes with 2 flowers each. I don't blame you Hans for being "in love" with this Amaryllis. The flowers were just awesome. I don't cross or breed my Amaryllisses that's why I offered it's pollens in another thread. Hopefully Tokyomafia can be successful with them. I still got some saved if anybody would be interested. Papilio is definitely my favorite new hippi!!!

The papilio that I received a few weeks ago was half the size of Apple Blosom bulub.It has produced oly three leaves now about 4 inches but yet no scape is showing. where as the APPLE BLOSM is ready to burst open.
I was toled that PAPILIO bulb is relatively smaller.
I hope this time the Papilio is a real Papilio and I hope it blooms..

Arif, your Mongrels are always amazing. I hope, you will have tons of new pictures this year.

Although the color is sort of "washed out" and the entire color profile is not spectacular this mongrel is an example for symmetry, for esthetical proportions!

Ah, but this flower would be fun to build into floral arrangements! Love that coral red and the stripies! I can think of many pretty combinations With it!

This spring I hop to have many new single and double surprises.May be I am lucky enough to get a few stunning ones too.
