Arizona Gardening

Please help me with the following beans and how they do in AZ?

I just started a large home garden this fall/winter. I was given some seeds as a gift for the following: Sunset Peach Blossom - Heirloom Runner Bean, Broad Windsor Fava Beans, True Cranberry Beans - Dry Pole Beans, and Ireland Creek Annie - Dry Pole Beans.

I would love any advice as to when to plant here in AZ and what type of spacing, etc on how best to plant in my beds.

General info can be found at your cooperative extension service office/web site. Go to the Veg. forum to get specific input.

if you are in the hot summer areas like Phoenix or further south, the best time to plant would have been last week of Aug or first 2 weeks of sept. but, if you still have them get them in right away, as they will need all the time they can get before the summer burns them up. Also as the temps get hot mosaic will all but kill them. Beans do not usually keep well into a second season. You could try holding them until Aug./Sept '09 but I would not hold them past that.

You can't really compare the water needs of a newly planted tree with those of an established one. Some of my new trees have needed watering every day, while older established ones need only a couple waterings per YEAR in my cooler climate. Overwatering is really a function of the soil. If you still have a puddle around the tree an hour after you've watered, you probably have poor drainage that could certainly kill the plant in a hurry. I hate to sound negative, but from your pic it is already too late. Stop wasting water, and try a new peach tree after you figure out if you have a drainage problem and how to fix it.

Please help me find some Dade pole beans

Thanks to everyone who has responded. I have found my supply for this year and providing that the weather is favorable should have a good number of Dade beans to share for next year. My friend said that the company that originally sold them was sold years ago and that it has become harder and harder to find them. I can still find great reviews about them on the web but the number of available sources is extremely limited. Always great when you can keep the heirlooms going! Share and save. Ann in TN

Aren't you the lucky one......I have used that option about two or three times over the years that I have had computers.....and I had Windows 3.0, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7.0 Professional and Windows 10.....as you can see I have had many computers over the years........I am a Computer operator not a Computer Tech......Thank you! P.S. I go back to Netscape and my first computer was a Gateway......I still need help from a Tech....but, I have fun with my laptop, Ipad, Desktop....
