I grew thyme last year and am still waiting for it to wake up, I had it in a container all winter long & it was the first thyme ( ha ha ) for me. I really am not much help but someone will come along soon that knows something!

Mine is growing like crazy - It's spreading like fire... but no color. it's okay - I mean it's a great groundcover, but oh how nice it would be if it had some color...

Maybe there's another variety that I should have bought - I will do some research

We sell wooly thyme at the store. It doesn't have a noticeable bloom. In order to get seeds, it has to flower, right?

Sure, token, good point - Although I haven't seen anything as yet - maybe I am thinking it's a spring bloomer - hopefully it's a summer bloomer.

There are many, many varieties of thyme, some used in cooking and others used as a ground cover. I have several varieties used for ground cover that are various heights. These spread out along the paths but I wouldn't really call them a mound. In my garden all flower later in the summer/fall, one hugs the ground with very tiny flowers. Even wooly thyme flowers.

Vera has a some that form nice mounds. Here are some photos she posted last year that came up with a search.

mnwsgal - OMG - you really figured it out for me - I knew Vera posted pictures (she inspired me to actually do thyme), but i didn't remember where her post was.

I think (almost sure..) I have what is known as creeping thyme - (I said mounds but used the wrong word here to describe them).. I also posted a question on the herb forum - and may post a picture.

Either way, I love the thyme and whether it flowers or not - it's a keeper

Your question sent me to do a search bec. I remember getting a catalogue that had such magnificent pictures of thyme, which totally re-created my image of thyme.

I hadn't known til I saw these pictures that thyme flowers, cuz none of mine do. I learned that it attracts bees too.

I couldn't find that catalogue, but I did find some pictures.

Wow! I hope mine DO flower - still not sure if they will - but can you imagine having thyme that flowers like those pictures (and Veras, too?)...

My next project is to find seeds that flower... who cares about cooking with it! :0)

I am sure the links told you what you needed.

I have woolly thyme and it does not flower but does spread.

I also have another thyme that is green with yellow edges on the leaves. It took till at least the second year to bloom. I did not save seeds and chopped off the blooms on that one. they were do pretty and pink.

this year I will let it bloom and save seeds. it is not a tall plant and looks nice on the border edge.

Wow, the thyme in the link looks too good to be true, it must be exceptional. Has anyone tried that variety?

~~sigh~~ - I had 3 different kinds of thyme - really nice healthy approx 2x2' patches each but had to dig them up this spring - wire grass had gotten into them. I saved as much as I could and replanted some of the clumps and potted up others for backup. I hope by next year they really take off again for me - mine all bloomed .....

The pint size lemon thyme I purchased from the garden center last year is now blooming. I don't remember it blooming last year.

Is all thyme edible?
I had wooly thyme. I tried to move it , it died.
I had lemon thyme, moved it, it died.

Now I have left is creeping thyme? It has flowered
every year. I like bees and all, but mounds and mounds
of flower, will get you lots and lots of bugs/ bees that
like nectar. Which to me is a PITB.

I want to shear mine and not keep the flower so long.
Mine has a long, long loooooooong period of bloom.

I didn't even know the Thyme I grew last year was perennial in my zone. Pulled most of it in Fall clean up of frosted herbs but then found it standing tall and pround in one container early this Spring.

The packet of seeds I bought showed a picture of Thyme with little white flowers on it. Got it because it's supposedly good for attracting pollinators.

What do I know? Sowed lots of it this year to tuck in among regular plants.
