Oh yeah, erika! I'm right there with ya. OMG!! Not only did every blinking seed sprout in every blinking jug, I'm convinced some of them were up to a little hanky panky while they were waiting to sprout!! Some jugs have a modest number of sprouts while others look like Chia pets!!
I'm just a few miles from you in north central CT. I'm beginning to think I have enough sprouts to fill all the gardens in town! I'm loading up pots and giving them away as Mother's Day gifts at our annual gathering on Sunday. Next door neighbor is tickled pink with my WS results because he's getting at least one of everything.
To answer your question, yes I'm feeling overwhelmed and no, I don't think I'll get a break until Thanksgiving!!
I've got reinforcements coming Saturday to help me plant out. I took photos of the mayhem. If I figure out how to post them I'll try to do it before I fall asleep!

Last year was my first WS year and I felt the same way.

My son asked if I was ever going to finish planting.

I did and it was SO wonderful!! Being done planting and witnessing the incredible results.

This year, I direct sowed more and but have not yet started planting my WS jugs. If everything sprouts, I'll be in the same boat - aint is grand??

Having relocated and having to remove sod and hand dig everything....Arrggghhh! I didn't think I ws'd much, but my containers tell me otherwise! I've been re-potting like crazy while trying to get the beds ready! Staying busy has NOT been a problem, but finding the energy to push more my sore muscles....that's another story!

My son's teacher needed to talk to me and tried calling. When I didn't answer, she asked him how to get a hold of me.
He told her to drive to my house....I was probably 'digging in the dirt'. LOL

I'm in the same boat -- not sure I'll ever be done. I can't believe how many plants there are. I'm trying to do a little at a time, juggling getting the beds ready for them with planting a little here and there. Two days ago I put in 17 tomato plants and did eight more today. I'm also potting up to give away. My sister is getting overflow veggies (although she already killed the container of cauliflower I gave her by not watering it -- so maybe she's not a good parent for my babies :)

The flowers are the real problem -- the back of the perennial bed was all overgrown with weeds. Killed those and now it's a matter of turning over the dirt and clearing the dead vegetation in order to plant new things. Some malva's gone in -- the lupines are pining for a permanent home, as is the swamp milkweed.

Still, this is a blast and the results are better than I could have imagined when many of the containers were under a few feet of snow.

I spent the day digging out the swamp milkweed that was trying to take over my butterfly garden. I don't know if I will ever get it all out. My butterfly garden hasn't amounted to much yet, but with all the WS babies, it should rock. Spent the day getting the weeds out of the lily garden so I could mix in some different seedlings there. I have so much moving around of existing perennials, I feel like I'll never get going big time on the seedlings. But I will. Happy planting everyone!

Oh, no Bev, swamp milkweed (asclepias incarnata) is invasive? I just planted nine of them. I'll have to keep an eye on them. They look so pretty in the pictures I've seen.

The lupines (seven) and hollyhocks (11 today with two more to go) also got permanent homes today as did basil, cilantro and a parsley.

My 19-year-old son dug out the back of the garden and the last square in the early veggie garden without being asked. He said he's terrible at picking out mother's day gifts, but figured he can always give me manual labor. I'll take that any day.

Caryl, your son is worth his weight in GOLD for helping you in the flowerbeds! Wish my son could help me but he's been working 7/10 (seven days a week/ten hours a day) for months and I just can't bring myself to ask him for help.
My friend came today and the two of us sat in lawn chairs with tray tables. I'd bring gallon milk jugs of sprouts inside the garage (it was raining) and the two of us would sit and open them, pot up sprouts, then carry those out in between showers and set them along the front walk so they can grow on. After the rain stopped we got busy planting in an oval flowerbed--feverfew, bachelor buttons, Cupid's dart, blackberry lily, lupine & rudbeckia. There's a lot more to plant in that bed but it was a good start. She went home happy as a clam with over a dozen pots of new perennials for her own tiny garden.
It was a good day.

my alyssum is blooming too! I sowed a lot of it so I am happy. I mixed the varities so I have all kinds blooming, some purple and some white ones.

I got a lot of what I wished for and have a lot of ws babies to take care of.

Gardenweed, sounds like a great day even if it was raining. We've had no rain for awhile, but it's cold and windy here today. Being able to give away some plants is one of the best parts of ws, isn't it? It makes other gardeners so happy, and I've found that when you explain ws to them they're intrigued. (What, no lights, no plants taking up every surface in the house? And no spending $$$ on perennials?)

Caryl - giving away WS perennials is such a joy! I took lots of pots with me to our yearly Mother's Day/Scott's birthday bash at my son's house today and let all the mothers pick a pot to take home. My DIL was delighted to keep the ones left behind. She works for a landscaper P/T so last year I asked her to check under Japanese maples for seedling volunteers. She brought me THREE!! Woohoo! They survived the winter dormant inside my garage and have sent out new leaves this year.
It was brutally cold and windy here today and there's a freeze warning in the forecast. I cut the tops off too many jugs so lots of bottoms got shuttled inside the garage and onto a folding table for a couple of nights. I pushed tops down inside bottoms of others and covered a few with baskets (with cement pavers on them to keep the wind from taking them). Others got pushed under the hosta leaves for protection.
I sure hope I don't lose anything but I'm moderately confident these WS seedlings can survive whatever Mother Nature decides to throw at them. I'll know tomorrow!
