Missouri Botanical Garden Visit (pics pics pics)

Once again I went too soon to really enjoy the fall color. I did however get some ideas for fall blooming flowers and Cacti to grow in Missouri of all things.

Here's some pics. They have a few neat sculptures still there. I'm going to sneak another peek in a few weeks when the Metasequoias are changing.

I was there in August and surprised myself with all the photos I took of bark features. The gardens are celebrating their 150th anniversary next year. Those metasequoias were planted shortly after WW II, and are truly majestic. Nearby is a zelkova with wonderful fluted trunk taper. I noted a parrotia that was peeling and flaking, and several maples, not just paperbark, with beautiful bark.

Guess i need to go back after leaf fall and take more pics. Truly a world class garden.

It doesn't look like they have anything even near modern. Plus my RUSSIAN EASTER is way more yellow than that, maybe theirs was really bleached out by the sun. I also have BOLD TIGER, its a nice 'oldie'.

My kids got a few giggles out of it as well but you can't help but marvel at the amount of time it must've taken to place the pieces of glass and stone used to make those huge things (the statues lol) and they're quite sound. Kids are allowed to climb in and on some of them and they're tough enough to be moved around the country (world?) to be on display in different places. I spelled it wrong I think - it should be with one K. Here's some more images at Flickr.com My kids loved the big skull because they could go inside it.
