Kordes Climber Summer Wine
Comments (7), As you see, this is a wonderful rose! I have it climbing by my front door and it puts on a show for nearly all summer...a big display in June (Sometimes the first rose of the season in May) and some blooming right up until after frost. It also makes big orange hips that hang like jewels all winter. I have a no spray garden so observe the healthy leaves in the photo. It ws blown over by hurricane force winds a year ago, and I had to cut it back to 4' to untangle it from the mangled trellis. Much to my surprise it put on a glorous show right on time this year and the canes have all grown back! I thought I Might miss a year of bloom but it loved being cut back...was prettier then ever. THere is only a subtle fragrance but the way the light shows through the big beautiful petals more then makes up for lack of fragrance. Besides, with the other roses, jasmine and honeysuckle all blooming, no one will miss the fragrance here. IF I were to be marooned on An Island in a temperate region this is the rose I would take! All winter the birds perch on it outside my window to eat at the bird feeder among the big orange hips...the only color in the winter landscape. I bought mine from Heirloom about 8 years ago....See MoreAnyone grow Kordes Laguna climber in Z9?

Comments (6)Well, I got mine in 2000, so I'm quite sure it must be the older one. Hmmm. Interesting to compare the descriptions on HMF: 1982: Climber, Large-Flowered Climber. Orange-pink. Strong fragrance. Large, double (17-25 petals) bloom form. Occasional repeat later in the season. USDA zone 6b through 9b (default). Height of 8' to 15' (245 to 455 cm). Reimer Kordes (1982). 2002: Climber, Large-Flowered Climber. Carmine-pink. None to mild fragrance. Large, full (26-40 petals), cluster-flowered, in small clusters bloom form. Blooms in flushes throughout the season. USDA zone 6b through 9b (default). Height of 6' 7" to 9' 10" (200 to 300 cm). W. Kordes & Sons (2002). Ok, Karen. I guess I can't tell you how the Rosanna from Palatine would do at your house. You'll let us know, right? :-) (And I do *hate* that when they re-use the exact same name!!) Comments (11)I purchased a Laguna from JandP which was delayed in shipping this year. It arrived in April looking very puny and the leaves had what looked like blackspot. I planted it anyway and called (repeatedly) and finally got someone to talk to me about it. The horticulturist looked at my pictures and said it looked like "shipping shock" and it would probably snap back soon. Well - he may have been right - it is looking better and the leaves at the bottom - even though they are still black spotted and light yellow - are all that is left of the blackspot mimicking look. I am still not completely sure it is not a bad bush - but will still give it time to grow before calling them back! I'm attaching a picture of how it looked in the beginning - not sure I have one of recently....See Morekatefisher
