My favs are Frederic Mistral (fragrance wow, tons of blooms) and Memorial Day (fragrance wow) Both have gorgeous flowers. Make sure you have lots of room for Fred Mistral!

Yes, I find I gravitated last year to the mauves. Now there are too many lavenders and I want more pinks.

single white species roses - not only do I have far too many of them - they all seem to grow to massive proportions.

Have had to hold myself back from yet another (Wickwar) and am fighting a losing battle (I fear) to not order the Garland (all that acreage and new woodland, none of which has been cleared yet!)

Harmony, I also have Peter Mayle, Memorial Day, Neptune, and Firefighter coming in. Very excited for them! Although after reading this thread I think I need to add Frederic Mistral to my list of wants.

This season I think I ordered most lavender/purples available in the catalogs, despite knowing they probably won't do super well in my thrips/blackspot filled. I don't see anyone in my neighborhood growing the purples and I am set on having a nice display of them next to my apricots.

Memorial Day tends to be leggy for me but I love those ruffled blooms!

I definitely gravitate towards the pinks, especially those leaning toward the lilac side, and for that reason I also have quite a few roses in the lilac/purple spectrum. I also love the paler pinks such as SdlM, but have added whites and one or two apricots and golds to forestall boredom. What I don't do are orange and bright red, which at any rate would clash horribly with the natural background of hills and boulders which are very close to the garden.

What Michael said is true. Pink is the "default" color for roses. There are probably more species in pink shades than any other color, with white taking a close second. Raise a population of seedlings and you'll find the vast majority in shades of pink. Many of the most vigorous, healthy, productive roses have been pink. What's been difficult has been raising vigorous, healthy roses in colors other than pink. Kim

In my garden it's been white and white blends. Also have a good showing of orange and salmon colors. Most of my solid pinks are OGR's and a couple of Austins. Now that I REALLY look at the color flow in my garden, it's a pretty good mix of everything except yellow. I'm going to have to fix that this year.

I have a love for copper coloured roses like Summer Song.

I have a longing to rich reds with a touch of orange like Benjamin Britton.

I have a near fetish for a velvety red roses with bright yellow centres.

I have to go buy another rose after all this chat about colour....definately something red...

Oh M, you're funny! I SO love rich reds as well. The pinks make me feel happy, the reds touch something quite deep, emotional.

Something I just realized in Ken's post, is that I also have minimal yellows - well, plenty blends w/yellows, but I tend to pass up the pure yellow. I have Julia Child, Sunsprite, Teasing Georgia, and unknown which was already here and cl. Royal Gold, but that's it. I've passed by Walking on Sunshine, Gold Medal, St. Patrick, Sunflare, Oregold, and so many others many times over. Wondering if it's just that they don't tend to be as fragrant as the pinks and reds, and I'm a fragrance junkie. Glad the most common color happens to be one I really like. Like chestnut and bay in horses - the most dominant, common colors (for most breeds).

And aside from a few DA whites, HT and white just doesn't work for me. After reading so many rave posts about Pope John Paul II, including fragrance, I found myself staring at it at Navlets. I just couldn't pick it up. I have Iceberg as it was so inexpensive, but that's it. Do love purples/lavendars and orange / apricots.

I stand corrected, I just counted and I have 44 pinks coming in for the spring and like you, Harmony, I am low on yellows (only 10). I guess I like more pinks but I don't get as excited for them as some of the others? There just seems to be so many pinks that can't be passed up that the get added to my list however. Plus I feel like you have so many different shades of pink that they are very versatile compared to some of the other colors.
