Pot ghetto gone.
Comments (5)Ha! Ha! Gillian, nobody pointed out that 9 x 55 cents per bark is only $4.95, but who's counting? Clever of you to think of that =:) The only bargain I managed to get this year were two plants I can't remember the name of, and a bloody cranesbill 50% off. I guess somebody else got all the $5.00 roses, boo hoo ! I guess I'm not quite seasoned enough, as I can't bring myself to dig up anything that's not quite what I want yet. Maybe next year....See MorePot ghetto in a hurricane?
Comments (27)I don't have a garage either, and I'll be moving the car this afternoon to get it farther away from the old birch tree that's not aging well. Many years ago the previous birch tree in that location fell in a storm and just missed my car. I'm mostly finished with the evacuation; just the deck houseplants and the birdfeeders. Correction, bird and bee feeders. This is the jam feeder I keep for the orioles and catbirds, but the bees must have heard about Hurricane Irene and they're busy stocking up on Jam. The orioles usually chase the bees away but I've never seen these numbers before. They ignored me completely when I photographed them, although I wouldn't try to stand between them and the jam. I think I'll leave that feeder up for a while. Claire...See MoreSo: What Happened To Dee's Pot Ghetto?
Comments (17)Just checking in to see how things are going a month following Irene... We were without power for 6 days. Dee, I heard and understood your frustration. After a while, cooking on the gas grille (we were lucky to have it) gets old, just as I dared to think that, we ran out of gas and there was NO grille! The no flushing/no shower was the worst! All candles were gone by the end of 6 days, not to mention any food that had been in the freezer. Lost the top half of several 60' trees, but no damage to our property. Neighbors just down the road had a three trunk tree go through their house, taking out their bathroom. I initially posted to say that I have never had such profuse blooms of morning glories or perennial (branching) Maximillian Sunflowers as we had this year about 7-10 days after Irene came through. Also, I usually see some color on our trees by October 1st... a few isolated leaves is all as of today. Dee and Carl, I wish you good things after all you went through. Comments (33)Ooh, Greening, you are good, lol! Congratulations! I had to laugh when I re-read this thread. I said I had 80 pots! Pshaw nothing! *I* was a rookie then too, lol! Last winter I dragged 243 pots into my garage. The year before it was 284, so I am getting better! I have made some progress, and I've been really, really good about not buying new stuff. But yes, I do still have some of those same plants that were in pots in 2005 still in pots. What can I say? I procrastinate. Although some of these are supposed to still be in pots - they are for my patio. I think I'm down to about 150 this year. I haven't counted yet - I do that when I bring them in. And I must add that many of these pots are little - 3 or 4 inches, so it's not quite as bad as it sounds. I don't think I will ever not have anything in pots for the winter. Even if I don't count my patio plantings, I will still always have something. I just know it. I won't even attempt not to, lol. :) Dee...See MoreRelated Professionals
