Possibly, you are warm enough for Prairie Harvest. That one is a true heat lover.

As long as you stick with hybrid teas and grandifloras, you will have trouble meeting all your criteria. Most of them must be sprayed for diseases, many are not fragrant, many bloom in flushes with rest periods between.

If you are willing to spray every couple weeks, you can't beat Double Delight for beauty and good fragrance. Gold Medal is lovely and has fairly good disease-resistance, but I don't remember if it is fragrant.

I also like Earth Song--but it isn't really a hybrid tea--if that is what you are looking for.

I have had good luck with the McCartney Rose, hot pink, very fragrant, not much trouble with blackspot and blooms lots. You might also try an own root Crimson Glory from Chamblees.

I understand that fragrance is subjective, but my understanding is that Earth Song is moderately fragrant, at best (though I am ordering it), as it meets your other requirements.

One I believe may meet your requirements (that I also am ordering) is "Deep Secret" - very disease resistant, relatively hardy, very fragrant, very dark red (almost black buds). "Erotica" is another red rose I'll be trying, for the same reasons.

New Zealand is a good bloomer and is extremely fragrant with a strong sweet scent, supposedly like honeysuckle.

It's not disease free, however.

Earth Song is the one that fits your criteria. I agree with MG. It gets some BS, but much less then majority of other roses that can be used for cutting. Geo, it is very fragrant in my garden. I don't know why you think it is moderately fragrant.
Deep Secret is not resistant, at least that was my experience. McCarney rose has better then average resistance too, but still not as much as Earth Song.

I agree with Olga: Deep Secret is not disease resistant even less disease free in my humid coastal climate.

Mirandy is extremely fragrant and very healthy just like Chrysler Imperial but Mirandy blooms more than CI and is more fragrant. I don't spray.

Well, I must say I feel properly chastised! Guess I shouldn't have trusted recommendations of Botanica and Heirloom Roses?

Will Erotica work? Maybe I'll have time to switch my Deep Secret order? What of Heirloom (apart from Morning Has Broken & Earth Song, which are already on order) would you recommend along these lines?

I've had Earth Song in my garden for about 5 years now and it is very hardy and actually pretty good for disease resistance. As far as being fragrant, it is moderate at best.

Frederic Mistral is very fragrant and has moderate BS resistance (it grows and blooms well without spray but will have some spots).

Hawkeye Belle? Generosity?

Morning Has Broken is quite disease-resistant. I don't remember if it is fragrant. However, it doesn't have the typical rose bloom (if you are thinking of blooms like Mr. Lincoln or Chrysler Imperial). It is a semi-double bloom at best, and I don't remember it having long stems either--although I'm sure there would be some way to cut it. It just won't be the "typical" rose look, if that is what you are after.

I like it myself--but I like all roses: singles, semi-doubles, high-centered hybrid tea types, big fat full David Austin types, old-fashioned quartered blooms, etc.

You can get by not spraying Mr Lincoln. It will mildew and blackspot, but it is vigorous enough to still produce amazing flowers as long as you give it excellent soil and fertilize frequently. After 15 years of rose growing, nothing can top it for fragrance and perfect cut flowers on long stems. Make sure you give it some winter protection. It always dies back to the mulch line here, but bounces back beautifully.

Frederic Mistral is very interesting. It was disease free for in the first 3-4 years here but I wouldn't say that is blackspot free now in year 7 or 8. (I know that he is spottier in MD or NC mountains)

However, FM does not defoliate from spots here in zone 8; also FM requires plenty of water to bloom well, so he didn't perform that well in the drought of last summer.
Worth trying though, it smells wonderful and great for cutting.

Two floribundas that are somewhat resistant, good bloomers and nicely fragrant: Apricot Nectar and Honey Bouquet. HOwever both will definitely blackspot. Buck's Quietness has a light sweet fragrant (not intnese) AND very resistant, and gives you lots of blooms to cut. Quietness is just a great all-round rose!

Thanks guys for all the recommendations. Just to clarify: I don't mind some spots, as long as the plant is not defoliated by BS/ PM.

I made a table with color, fragrance, bloom form, repeat/ frequency, disease resistance.

The front runners at this point seem to be Mirandy, (especially since I found my notes from last summer at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden that said 'Heavenly fragrance'), Erotica, and Frederic Mistral (although I prefer damask to citrusy fragrance).

Helpmefind does not talk about Mirandy's disease resistance, though. Any more experiences with it? Will it do OK with some shade?

Any thoughts about Lagerfeld aka Starlight and Cologne grandifloras? What about Wm Shakespeare 2000?

Look at Buck roses Praire Sunrise, and Prairie Harvest. Very BS resistant w/o spraying and strong fragrance.

No to both Lagerfeld and Cologne, fragrant, yes, no-spray, no, no, no...

I say no to Chrysler Imperial and Mr. Lincoln too. No to any hybrid tea, it is too humid to even try.

You haven't had a problem with Love and blackspot? Really? Doesn't totally defoliate for you?

FM is a black spot disaster for me at the Jersey shore but he is very fragrant and bloomed very well, especially in the fall.

Frederic Mistral is a recommendation of the Del-Chester Rose Society as a ARS Penn-Jersey District Carewinner: Easy-to-Care-For Rose for Every Garden.

Perhaps the salt air or soil accounts for the difference on the Jersey shore?

Diane nj, the Love grandiflora does get BS and loses a few leaves, but does not defoliate too much, and still keeps blooming. If no HTs, what would you recommend?

I am OK with blooming in flushes, as long as it's not just one spring/ summer flush and then scattered bloom.

yeshwant, keep in mind that Frederick gets big. Maybe it won't be as much of a problem in your climate, but here he could get 10x10 easily.
Geo, I had to laugh at what you wrote. Check Heirloom's site for the worst disease resistant rose you have, it will probably say VDR, very disease resistant. My sister was complaining about her Gertrude Jekyll, what a mess it was and sure enough Heirloom, VDR. We had a good laugh as we checked our worst roses, most were VDR. I like Heirloom and order from them but don't rely on their assessment of disease resistance.

Frederick Mistral is bs prone here too but is a great, vigorous plant, blooms lots and is wonderfully fragrant.

To me Quietness was barely fragrant at first but then became intensely fragrant. It varies. Sometimes, like in the morning with a newly opened bloom the fragrance can be breathtaking. It's a gorgeous, healthy good bloomer with good vigor and good plant shape.

I can't smell Earth Song much but Country DAncer is all the things you want. Tipsy Imperial Concubine is great also. Angel's CAmp Tea is my most fragrant, best blooming tea if you want a 6x5' plant.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned 'Tiffany', one of the best HT's from the 1960's. No, its not continuous in bloom but I don't know a single HT that is. However, it has excellent fragrance, makes a great cut flower and it is one of my best roses for disease resistance. In fact, in a no spray garden this year, it remained Blackspot free all season long. YMMV, of course.

I'm 2hrs from the shore...I don't think it's as humid as where you are but it does get very hot and most of my roses get BS and lose a lot their leaves except Mirandy and CI. I did notice today that Mirandy has gotten bs now but still hold'n onto those green leaves.

Ok........this one dies hard (now I picture Bruce Willis, shrunken, battling rose diseases).......but "Country Dancer" instead of "Frederic Mistral".

Have asked Pat (once again) for the change - she must be getting real tired of hearing from me.

Oh, I'm laughing now-- as I was thinkng of taking The MacCartney Rose OFF my order and replacing it with Earth Song. I really try hard to select resistant roses. I think bushes look a lot better with leaves.. so Pat's gonna be hearing from me too!!
