Sad news EuroDesert closing.
Comments (4)I am so sad that Cliff has become ill and unable to continue with his dream. He has done a lot to get some very unusual roses out into commerce. And in trying to do so, he has stressed himself out so much that he just can't do it anymore. His health is much more important than all the roses. I've been in touch with him over the last several months and I know what he's been going thru. It was a difficult decision, but something he had to do. He is currently packing up about 12,000 roses to be trucked up to Vintage Gardens. I know what his list was, and he had some wonderful roses to be offered. I don't know when Vintage will be putting them up on the availability list, but hopefully it will be within a few weeks or so. Cliff and his EuroDesert Roses will be sorely missed by me, and I'm sure many others too....See MoreWhere did all the albas go?
Comments (32)Here's a little alba news from me.;) I have Chloris on order from Pickering for November delivery. They have sold out of her already, BUT they do 11 other albas still available: Alba Maxima, Blush Hip, Celestial, Felicite Parmentier, Great Maiden's Blush, Konigin von Danemark, Maiden's Blush, Mme Legras de St. Germain, Mme Plantier, Semi-Plena, and Suaveolens, http://www.pickeringnurseries.com/web_store_alba.cgi?&variety=alba Just received an order from High Country Roses in Colorado. Decided to take a chance on an alba found in Denver's Fairmount Cemetery called Jeremiah Pink. It was quite large for the pot (roughly equivalent in size to a band but with a wider and shallower container) and had an abundance of leaves. Arrived during one of our heat waves! but didn't seem to skip a beat. Now in a one gallon pot. See HCR's found rose page, http://highcountryroses.com/Qstore/Qstore.cgi?CMD=009&DEPT=1076372882&CAT=1110979713&BACK=A0007A1B01076372882B1 Heirloom now has one of the Rolf Sievers' albas in stock, Golden Blush. It's a cross of Maiden's Blush with the hybrid tea Golden Giant. The picture on Heirloom's site looks pretty, but HMF describes it as orange-pink, with photos that tend more to the orange side. I have an aversion to orange roses, so I don't know that I will try this one. If they decide to offer Crimson Blush or Summer Blush that will likely be another story. Imagine a RED alba! Heirloom's alba page, http://www.heirloomroses.com/roses/old-garden-roses/albas.html?limit=all Look how many are out of stock! It appears there are alba fans wanting to shop.;) Melissa...See More2009 ARS Fall National Conference and Rose Show Palm Springs
Comments (7)Karl, from the news reports I hear, I think you are among a majority of Americans, these days. Funny. For decades, financial experts and commentators wailed that Americans spent too much -- saved too little. Now they're wailing that we are spending too little. They need to make up their alleged minds. Jeri...See MoreImportant Message from Cliff Orent, EuroDesert
Comments (4)David, Cliff sent a long, informative email very early this morning to everyone on his mailing list. To summarize, he stated that he's very pleased with the results of his sale, but still has many roses left in his large collection. In the coming days/weeks he will be sending the names of the remaining roses BY CLASS to people on his mailing list. The class he spotlights in today's email: Hybrid Perpetuals (& there are some stunning ones still awaiting new homes). I encourage you to contact Cliff at EuroDesert ASAP & request to be added to his email list. Even tho he's involved in this monumental task, he's remained amazingly responsive to emailed question, so if you have a specific question or two, ask. As for your question regarding shipping costs: My EuroDesert order arrived in 3 separate shipments. My final shipment containing one large rose was shipped to my home on the east coast for $15 + change. My first shipment contained 3 roses, the second 2. I don't remember the exact amount for shipping on those, but the cost for each was in the low twenties. Bear in mind that the roses Cliff is shipping are NOT typical bare roots. The ones I received have good root systems and multiple thick canes that have been pruned quite short. Most had no vegetative growth when they arrived, but they all starting sprouting new qrowth within days of being potted or planted in the garden. Hope this helps answer your questions, David....See Morebethnorcal9
