Ouch.. it turned cooler here and we have chances still for frost.. but snow is probably done.. what state are you in?

Anyways poppies wont care, they will be fine with light frosts even light snow at this point.

thyme wont care either hardy herb.. light frost light snow wont hurt it much..

Everything else is tender and you may want to cover.. but from my expereince most light frost wont do much harm.. the colder and harder the frost the more danger you will run into..

I'm in the same boat, we are expected to get up to an inch of snow tomorrow night. It is raining now and expected to rain a lot tomorrow too.
I'm not planning to cover much, if anything. With all the moisture I'm hoping it will protect everthing from freezing. Temps are not expected to get below freezing and I think the extra water on everthing will help to insulate it.
This is just a theory of mine, I just have too much to cover to be able to.

Even for WI, I think the last time I remember snow this late was 1991, granted, I spent time outside of the state, but so hope we don't get it. Glad about the poppies, this is my first year growing annual poppies and really want them to turn out. I plan on being glued to the tube, it's still supposed to be pretty warm (at least above freezing), but in case it turns really ugly, the tender herbs will go in my garage (they're all in planters), and the sweet peas, I'm going to try to figure out how to cover, they're not that tall yet. Other years I could care less if I lost a few things, but these are the ones I wanted the most this year from wintersowing.

I must confess, our forcast changed to an inch of accumulation tonight. Sooooo I did move all my sprouted containers in for the night.
But I agree on the poppies, they are tough and would be fine. Most of my sprouted containers were more tender annuals.

Funny, I did the same. The herbs are safely in the garage, some of the plants are next to the house (south, south-western exposure) so I hope they stay a little bit warmer, and the sweet peas at the trellis have a plastic bag wrapped around them, hopefully enough, this was a good year wintersowing, and I'd hate to lose my new favorites.

I have saved baby blankets and airline blankets for just such an occasion! Covering them at night helps me sleep.

Yikes, they are also calling for snow up here and I never thought to cover my annuals which have already sprouted because they are still in their containers covered. Will that be enough? I put some peppers, thyme, gourd, and cucumber seedlings which were potted in the garage. Do I really need to cover those still in containers? It will be colder tomorrow (below freezing) and furnaces are kicking in again. Snow on Mother's Day? What crazy weather!!

I just went out to bring in my 2 2L's of ws tomatoes and the snow has started. Other tomatoes were started inside.

Haven't ws any other annuals yet and had forgotten about the tomatoes.

When I had my two inches of snow I lost some zinnias, amaranthus and some dahlias, the amaranthus were not done sprouting so they just came back, dahlias, which I thought I lost, looks to have rebounded, but I did lose the zinnias, my tomatoes were not up yet..

I dont think it was the temps, but I had a very wet slushy two-three inches of snow. it got into the containers and sat with some of the seedlings..

I spent most of Thursday planting 4 big pots. They contain mostly coleus, a few impatiens and zinnias. They'll sleep in the garage tonight and tomorrow night. Ditto tomatoes and the other annuals living in trays on my porch- torenia, begonia, zinnias... Guess all my plants will be sleeping in the garage and I will be parking in the driveway. My wintersown things still in jugs I'll most likely just cover with sheets. Each jug only has a few sprouts anyway.

Since my WSown Yvonne's salvia were failures this year I was counting on volunteers. They might be goners, too, after this weather, but they might take a little frost OK. They've done it before. I've only transplanted stuff from WSing that I knew would be OK, like dianthus, ruds, snapdragons.

Lucked out no snow but brrrrrrrrrr. Everythings looking just fine, even the sprouted annuals that were DS were safe. I'm glad most of my garden is made up of mature perennials, this is the first year i've done so many annuals so just not sure what to expect.

Snow! This is crazy.

Karen I think your Yvonne Salvia volunteers will be ok. I've noticed that things that re-seed come up early and don't seem to mind what the weather does. I think they are tougher.
