I have tons of seeds. Tell me what you have in exchange The double poppies are pinkish and pink/red. Very pretty. Calif poppies are yellow and are very easy to grow. I've had problems with poppy seeds germinating in this past, but certainly not this year.

Vvesper, 1) Some folks say that Annual Poppies resent being transplanted which is why they should be planted out when they are relatively small. I plant mine out HOS when they have their true leaves. If a few in the hos don't make it, some always do. Just make sure you water in the days following the planting out in the gardens. IMHO, I think that is where a lot of the problem is in regards to these. BTW, California P. are less finicky. 2)Californias should bloom all season for you, but others such as Shirley, Angels Choir, etc. may not. I keep mine blooming for quite some time by deadheading them. The cooler the summer, the longer they go. Last year I culled them in early August but that was simply to make room for wsown perennials. Good to know Trudi--thanks. I'm only 2 miles south of the Mass. state line & glad2garden's zone 5 so chances are they won't winter over here. I'm hoping for reseeds. Along with Chinese globeflower, these are one of the few orange flowers I find easy on the eyes. There are lots of seedpods on my CGF this year so I'll have plenty more of those next year. I WS the few seeds I had back in December and have a couple pots of seedlings. Eileen

Here too, not in flower yet. They self-seed very easily - in fact I have more success that way than by actually sowing the seeds myself, though I do chuck half a packet of seeds onto the ground every year! They overwinter very well, in spite of our -10°C temperatures, and flower again the following year. Am not really sure whether each individual plant lasts more than two years. They are in full sun (which is quite hot here, south of Lyons), and get no watering except when it rains. As someone said above, I believe, they seem to be rather independent, and like to do it their own way! Nice plants, though, plenty of colour.
