Cologne gets a rousing Meh from me. I had it for a couple of years. The flower was larger than Lagerfeld, but I can't remember if the form was similar, I think Cologne had more petals and was fuller. Fragrance was about the same level for me. Not as vigorous as my Lagerfeld (my first rose). Disease resistance about the same as L, horrible, had to be on a regular program. Cologne does have stronger canes and was not floppy like Lagerfeld. I wouldn't buy another Cologne, it was disappointing to me. Lagerfeld lives on after 16 years in the ground.

I like Neptune much better.

I am in Louisville, Ky. This is my 2nd year with Cologne. I also have Lagerfield, 2nd year. I must agree with diane on most issues. I almost s.p.ed it, but did not due to scent. Repeat average, Full petals,scent nice, color..very pretty. My biggest complaint is that a lot of buds never open and thrips love this rose in my garden. I will give it another year,tho. Lesley

I've had mine for many yrs, and it's not any better than LAGERFELD. Blooms infrequently & is not particularly disease resistant. While I do like the paler lavender color, the form is pretty boring and blows pretty fast. I don't even recollect what the scent is like. I haven't gotten rid of it so far, and probably won't, just because it's not a very common rose anymore.

I have to agree with most of what everyone else has said about this rose. It almost got SP'd several times and the only thing that keeps it in my garden is the fragrance and repeat for me ... it repeats pretty well for me strangely enough. It's kind of between two other rose plants that are fuller so I don't notice it's skinny form too much. I probably would not replace it if it were to die or I were to move away.

Thank you for the valuable information. Based on the responses I'm going to decline getting Cologne. It certainly doesn't sound any better than its parent. In fact, a couple of posters rated it as less vigorous. One of the things I've always liked about LAGERFELD is the good vigor. I'd had a terrible time trying to grow Hybrid Teas on their own roots but Lagerfeld is a nice exception. Yes, yes the disease resistance sucks but at least the plant keeps growing and blooming. In all actuality LAGERFELD is not a bad rose. The pale lavender color is very much on the "blue" side of mauve and the fragrance is powerful. It is also a good exhibition rose (like I said earlier the high pointed bud is very extreme) IF you can get a good strong stem, which doesn't always happen. I just wish the mature bloom was fuller. Ten extra petals would make all the difference in the world.

Of course, I have high hopes for Neptune. I've read the flowers are very beautiful and lush.

What about Silverado. It is my favorite lavender rose, strong fragrance and stays healthy [ I spay weekly ]
