Once it rains and cools off, all sorts of fungus returns. I used to stress about it big time, especially the rust. But I don't want to saturate my garden in poisons when it is almost the end anyway. I just do a good dormant spray in winter. It is almost here, I think.

I suspect what you have right now is not BS but another spot desease Cercospora. Now in zone 6b is a prime time for this desease. Knock Out is much more prone to Cercospora then to BS, at least here. Many people confuse these two problems, but actually Cercospora is much less serious thing, it only hits in late fall and sometimes early spring. It likes colder weather then BS. As soon as temp go up it goes away.

Issues in November? Sure there are issues. But the way I look at them is that they are not issues if I don't let them bother me. By the end of September, I figure that it's time to let go of the roses, turn my attention to someother stuff in my garden - mums and fall colours

I'm with cactus joe... I'm also enjoying the hips on the roses. But, alas, I don't spray at all, and I tolerate a lot of "imperfections" in my garden...that said, I think my garden is really quite remarkable.

I too have a breakout of Cercospora. Get it every fall when the temps drop. It looks bad, but it doesn't make the leaves drop like BS. Although they will drop anyway with the cold weather coming. I had my best flush of the year this week before the frost we had. I got a lot of compliments on halloween from the parents.

That's Sourwood, Oxydendrum arboreum.

The first picture is of Chrysanthemum 'Sheffield'. The second picture is not an aster, it is another chrysanthemum. The blooms are small, only 1 - 1 1/4 inches in diameter. Don't know the name of this cultivar - it came in a pot labelled "Garden Mums" from the nursery. I have seen this variety in Asian gardens. It responds really well to early pinching.

Absolutely breathtaking photos! My house is a Yes, whatever that disease you're talking about it does seem to be what mine have because like you said, their leaves aren't dropping. Some are starting to turn yellow as the days get shorter and weather gets colder. I even have a few rose hips - especially on my knockout. BTW: do knockouts shed their leaves in the winter?

Around the first of August several of us here suddenly got terrible outbreaks of blackspot. We had all been spraying regularly, but it just looked like we had been spraying with blackspot spores. We had quite a bit of leaf drop, and it was very difficult to control, even when hitting them with Manzate three times as prescribed. When the weather finally cooled off, it seemed to slow down quite a bit.

Now it looks like mine have Cercospora. Big black round spots, but the leaves aren't turning yellow and dropping.

I guess it's true - "If it isn't one thing, it's another".

I don't know what it is. The variety? Or the conditions in our garden? While some of the roses in the garden look pathetic with big black spots galore on their leaves, A Shropshire Lad remains spotless. It just occurred to me that if all my roses are ASL's, then, black spots will be relegated to a historic mention in our garden.
