Judith, Have you tried Bolero. It's a great one. Faith Whittlesey is a tea from Viru of India. I have it and it blooms a lot but it's only two years old. I'm not sure of the size but Pat at RU could tell you. I don't have a lot of whites that are mature yet. What about Prairie Star, it has a hint of pink but is fragrant and beautiful. Paloma Blanca is a good Buck too.

Glamis Castle is a good small white that repeats very well and has pretty flowers. The scent is myrrh and is not appreciated by everyone (including me), but I don't consider it a deterrent.

I also love Bolero. Mine is a shorty and can have a pink tinge at the base of blossoms. I also love JFK, Crystalline, Moondance, and Winchester Cathedral...and of course PJP II.

how would crystal fairy look in there with the other whites?

I have a Too-Lazy-to-Spray garden not too far from you, and I have had very very good luck with "Crystalline". Last time I was at Houston Plant and Patio they still had a few, and It's A Jungle sells them also. "Honor" also does well, but I have only had it for a year and hesitate to guess how it will do in the long run. You do need to know that there is the faintest pink tint at the heart of Crystalline's blooms as they age, if that matters.

'Bolero' and 'PJPII' have been outstanding here, and both have good fragrance. 'Bolero' has a relatively short growth habit.

uenn Mary II has a nice fragrance and is totally disease free here

Judith, out of your list above, I have Margaret Merrill and Winchester Cathedral. Of those two, I way prefer Winchester Cathedral.

But my favourite which is not mentioned above would have to be Princess of Wales.

Bolero gets my vote. Fragrant to the extreme, and disease resistant, at least so far and I don't spray. So far it is short.
Crystalline was a disaster in my garden and got way too tall regardless. BS mess. I don't kill roses often, but I killed this one.
Ducher is fabulous. Blooms all of the time, clean, but will get tall so you may have to whack it. I don't think it would look ugly if kept short. (Crystalline would, I think, because it would want to grow back before blooming).
But really, to have Crystalline and Ducher in the same sentance is like comparing apples and oranges.
Kronprincessin Viktoria is OK. Stays small. Doesn't bloom as often as I would like and doesn't stay as clean as I would like.
Winchester Cathedral is a BS mess. No leaves are ever on this rose. But the blooms are so fragrant that I have put up with it so far. It's a very tall rose.
The Generous Gardener looks OK so far, but it's too new to tell. It's not white.
If it were me, I'd put 4 Boleros in the bed.

My Perdita is peach. How about the new Clair Austin?

Judith, Over the years I've seen lots of good comments about Ducher, I think you can't go wrong with that one. Perle d'Or is a wonderful rose but it is definitely peach. I love Perle. Do you plan to put the whites together?
I bet when you get to Chamblee's you will find some more.

In addition to the Pope which you will love, try Bolero, Iceberg, Gourmet Popcorn for a sprinkle of white and maybe polyantha Marie Pavie which I don't have but want very much. Honor is a pretty good tall HT.

I second the Glamis Castle-healthy, tons of blooms once established (seems to do best after it's 1st yr) a bit short, but really rewarding. Moondance excellent in the tall end, along with Queen Mary II (very fragrant), of course PJPII-everything said is right on, and it is quite heat tolerant, both great for cutting, Pillowfight is another great small flowered, very floriferous, blooms here right up to Christmas.Iceberg is foolproof-blooms yr round here in S.Cal. Margaret Merrill is very pretty, fragrant, flowers well in the cool season, but does get mildew when it's humid, and takes a long breather when it gets hot. Maria Shriver is quite generous with its' blooms and has a really attractive smell.

Pillow Fight is very BS prone - 0 leaves if not sprayed. But if sprayed regularly then it's fabulous. Little blooms cover the bush in quick flushes.
Iceberg - BS prone. The blooms aren't fragrant enough or full enough to even fool around with.
My plan is to get rid of both of these roses this winter, if that gives you any indication of my disenchantment with them.
Instead of going to Chamblees, maybe you could come by and take them for free!

I plan to "punctuate" the white roses with the other colors. Was thinking several different kinds - like low Green Ice, then a HT like Pope J. Paul II, Bolero sounds like a definite......perhaps Ducher/Marie Pavie......dont want huge roses that will get too large..... I looked on Regan Nursery's site and they have lots of white roses. I enjoy ordering from Regans - I have heard good things about Gormet Popcorn......if anyone takes a look.....there are lots of choices. Iceberg and Pillowfight are nixed.....PJP II and Bolero are definites....think I could include Green Ice as a low grower......then still have several more white choices. Was thinking of trying Claire Austin, a new white. Getting ready to do my D. Austin order to pick up in Tyler in late January and unless I hear something negative, want to try that. Glamis Castle might be one to try [since I am going to Chamblees!] If anyone takes a look at Regans whites ........let me know what you think! Judith

GLAMIS CASTLE is going to be a black spot disaster in East Texas. Frankly, none of the white English Roses can be grown no spray. For your climate and growing conditions I recommend:

Clotilde Soupert (Polyantha) - white blushed lilac pink in the middle; small to medium
Ducher (China) - clear white; small to medium
Kronprincessin Viktoria (Bourbon) - lemony white; small to medium
Marie Pavie (Polyantha) - ivory white; medium
Madame Joseph Schwartz (Tea) - soft white; medium to tall
Prosperity (Hybrid Musk) - clean white; tall

All of these roses are fragrant, considered classics, and come recommended by Mike Schoup at the Antique Rose Emporium in Brenham, TX.

Oops I see that you only want small shrubs. Well then stick with the first four. You really can't go wrong with the Polyanthas. They practically take care of themselves. CS and KV will have the Old Garden Rose form attributed to the English Roses, while Ducher and Marie Pavie will please the Hybrid Tea lover.

BTW, if your willing to spray then there is no petite white rose more beautiful than FAIR BIANCA.

Konprincessan Victoria is the white sport of SDLM. You might also like another SDLM sport, Souvenir de St. Anne, which is semi double, and blooms even more than the double members of the family. I have a noisette, or possibly a moschata hybrid called Princesse de Nassau, which blooms almost all year, stays small, has no disease problems for me (we don't see much blackspot), and has the prettiest bush and foliage I have seen on any rose. You could grow this rose for the foliage alone.

I whole-heartedly recommend Pope John Paul II. I think it is the best white HT on the market.
I also grow Crystalline. It blooms alot and the bush is fairly vigorous growing and gets about 5 1/2' tall every year. It does need spraying as it will BS and PM if you don't.
There are lots of white HT's with a touch of pink on the outer edges of the petals like Moonstone, Cajun Moon, and Pop Warner. Actually, my Pop Warner hardly ever has any pink at all and I consider it a pure white in my garden.
Moondance and Iceberg are nice white floribunda's for me. Iceberg is a growing and blooming monster and I had to move it because it was taking up way too much room in my large bed of 30 roses. Unfortunately, when I moved it out of the garden bed to a location all by itself it died.
