Over the Moon and Good Life

I'm thinking of ordering these two roses. Does anyone have any experience with them. I don't care about the winter hardiness of the plants. I do care about how lovely the flowers are, the fragrance, the floriferousness and the rebloom.

I grow Over the Moon and haven't noticed a fragrance, blooms are beautiful and plentiful that last. The thrips down here in Kentucky love it, also.

Wish I could give you more information, but I just added Over the Moon to my garden this spring! So far, I love her! New growth is looking good, and I've had 3 blooms open already. The fragrance was nice. But the size of the blooms was the real surprise! They were 6 inches across! And the form and color was beautiful, as well as how well it held up - even through the rains! Ultimately, only time will tell how well I really like this rose. But so far, its a thumbs way up!! Shelly

I wish I had experience with Valencia so I could give you more of a comparison. OTM is a pretty bush...full, well rounded with foliage to the ground and flowers top to bottom unlike so many HTs that get bare knees and bloom only up top. Roses seem to get really big here in our heat/humidityÃ¢ÂÂ¦I rarely have one that stays anywhere near what itÃ¢ÂÂs marketed size is supposed to be. OTM could get the height of a small climber here if I didnÃ¢ÂÂt cut it back as much while deadheading, but has very strong canes that wouldnÃ¢ÂÂt work for training on a support. OTM gets almost as wide as tall by end of seasonÃ¢ÂÂ¦that would be more my worry with your allotted space. You could control height easier than width without it looking whacked up. My first thought was that it would be even bigger in a climate that doesnÃ¢ÂÂt get as much winter chill, but maybe it would stay smaller without our heat/humidity/rainfall? Even so, I don't think you could fit both OTM and Valencia there. I hate to steer you to OTM when you know Valencia will grow well for you, but it is a great rose for me here. Maybe someone from CA will chime in and let us know how it grows for them.

Lynn, when I moved, all my roses came with me except for 4 that I gave to neighbor friends. It's less work because they were already all in pots. Allison, Brigadoon was terrific for me when I lived in Mobile. That time I did leave quite few roses behind, taking only young plants and rooted cuttings. That plant was so big and robust that I didn't want to "sentence it" to life in a pot. But it is a beauty. Regarding Over the Moon, I'm missing Valencia, which was a gangly grower for me but with beautiful and fragrant blooms that lasted well. I've kinda been on the lookout for a worthy apricot replacement for it. Regarding Rock & Roll, I think I'm going to have to get it to go along with the Red Intuition and Pink Intuition I already have. Used to grow Scentimental, but the blooms always shattered after just a day or two; too frustrating. As for Silverado, jury's still out for me. I have grown Paradise--several years. It's striking and a great bloomer of modestly sized blooms, but that raspberry edging is quit a different effect than paler lavender. It was a good bush but extra sensitive to garden chemicals; always needed extra diligent watering. If I had unlimited space, I'd still have it, but it was replaced by Fragrant Plum, another good rose, but it has not been the impressive bloomer that Paradise was. I recently bought a young rooted Blue Moon from Heirloom Roses. Nice delicate lavender color, but the bloom form still hasn't impressed me. I'm reserving judgment until it's third year. We'll see. Always on the lookout for a worthy lavender, though. If I don't buy Silverado, I may try Enchanted Evening. I just don't know if I'll be able to get cutting roses from it or if they'll all be in big bloom clusters. I don't have many floribundas, largley because of my bias toward HT form. Thank you all for the well wishes. The twins are fraternal but too early to know their sex. We had a family breakfast this morning then went with DD , DSIL, DGS, to Babies Are Us. I bought them a twin stroller and car seats for the little ones. Thankfully she hasn't had morning sickness so far. Tib and DLM thanks for the links I will check them out. Beagles that is a cute story. Their first child will only be a year and a half when the twins arrive so they really will have their hands full.

Well, my climate is totally different than yours, but for what it's worth, I've grown Over the Moon for just one season. So far it has respectible, if not standout, bloom production, but the flowers it produces are wonderful, clear bright peach, with moderate fragrance. The bush seems pretty healthy; it's not yet a mature bush. Blooms last fairly well cut or on the bush, and it has handled hot, humid, weather as well as cooler weather, whether rainyor dry. I got mine hoping it would be a reasonable replacement for Just Joey, which though beautiful and fragrant, just didn't want to perform for me. I'm pretty satisfied with Over the Moon. Go for it. You know you want it. ; )

I grew Good Life a couple of seasons ago. It was very fragrant, had nice HT bloom form and lasted well as a cut flower, good warm melon color and fairly productive. Unfortunately it did not like my climate. In the heat of our 100+ summers the blooms would shrink and fade, and our erratic up and down winter temperatures did it in over its first winter. If I were in your zone and didn't care about winter hardiness (or didn't have weird Oklahoma weather) I'd get it again in a heartbeat. Well worth trying..... canadian_rose, I have Good Life as a potted plant and really don't have a single bad thing to say about it. The blooms are of very nice color and form and having good fragrance, both production and health seems pretty good, I give this rose high marks :)
