Training my Rev d'Or on an arbor

Finally, after 3 years of growing my little Rev d'Or with no training and/or pruning my husband has made an arbor for my beloved rose. The arbor is 8 ft tall x 7 ft wide x 7 ft deep, so I know that I will probably have to work with Rev d'Or to keep it within the confines of its new arbor. I have not planted anything on the opposite side to climb on the arbor, but I have a tall, beautiful Cramoisi Superieur that I believe will look good opposite the pale yellow of Rev d'Or.

Our winters are mild here in southeast Texas and I wonder if I should prune at all at this time, or wait until normal pruning time for us (late jan/early feb).

Another question I have is whether the horizontal supports on the arbor need to be spaced more closely together. Right now the 2inx2in wooden supports are about 13in apart. I have read recommendations that the canes on tall climbers can be trained horizontally in a back and forth fashion. Would that work on Rev? As always, any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Molly
