The last rose of summer, or autumn.

Which of your roses continues to bloom after the majority of your roses have stopped blooming for the year?

I'm particularly interested in shrub roses, but any late blooming rose would be of interest to me, to share with other rose lovers who wish to extend their rose blooming season.

In our garden the last modern roses to produce full flushes of bloom in autumn are:

"Iceberg" and "Mrs. R.M. Finch" Florabunda

"Mary Rose" Austin.

"Secret Garden Climbing Musk" Hybrid Musk.

Luxrosa

P.S. Most of our China and Old Garden Tea roses continue to bloom 3 to 4 weeks later in the year (with a few blooming 6 weeks later), after our Hybrid Teas have stopped blooming.

One Hybrid Tea in full late bloom is Forgotten Dreams. This rose has been amazing me all this year. I moved it two years ago thinking that Forgotten Dreams was a Dream Better Forgotten. In three years prior, it hadn't given me more than two blooms and was very mousy. I stuck it in the back 40 to be forgotten but instead of fading away, it ripped out of the ground with amazing ease and has been non-stop bloom all this year with the most amazing beautiful, hugh blooms - and yes, they are Forgotten Dreams.

Along with this rose, other poor performers such as Sweet Sixteen, By Appointment and Hot N Spicy were put back there. All are outstanding. It's the soil, I'm sure. The only rose back there that isn't standing up to be counted is Arizona. The really good ones are really, really good, the poorer ones are also really good. Arizona is blaugh.

I so enjoyed your garden. Your roses are so beautiful. I have never heard of Sweet Pea and this rose is outstanding! I cut three large bouquets today as we are having below freezing temps tonight. Jeanne, Thank you, we are having beautiful weather right now. 50's at night, but into the 80's during the day. Karen, Luvs hasn't shown up yet, LOL Luvs, it is less of a fold and more of a twist, LOL Nana, I hang on to summer as long as I can. Jane, I was trying to decide what I wanted to do with the napkins and this is what I came up with as my final choice. Thanks for the compliment. Marlene, I love pink roses, and when I saw those at GW, well it was a no brainer that they were coming home with me, LOL. Punk, thanks, but since fall has officially arrived, I'll probably start breaking some out soon. Janet, Kath, and Betty, I did fold the pink napkins diagonally, then folded the point to the long side and folded it again to make a long skinny piece. Then I folded the tip of one end to the opposite side at that end to make a little cone. Then I coiled and twisted the rest of the napkin around the cone until I reached the end and tucked it into the coil. The green napkin is folded diagonally, and then the tip is folded to the center, and fold it down again until I had the long skinny piece again and just folded one end over the other like a pink cancer ribbon and placed the pink rose in the center. Lovely, T. I have one really prolific rose here, where I am in the sub-tropics, it's Meillands (Medilands) 'Seduction'. I also have one David Austin that grows and flowers almost as well (a red, I forget its name, will have to look it up) and am looking for others. Also your Amadeaus, that looks promising, I might go do a 'Google' on it and see if it'll grow in (US) zone 10. Nice show, and nice 'clean' bushes too - no blackspot, no aphids. B B B.

A lovely recording, Berrypie! There's also an elegant recording by Kiri te Kanawa posted on YouTube. I'm a fan of both KtK and opera, and I grow the blue-purple clematis that carries her name. Perhaps I need to acquire another Old Blush and grow the two together? Justin, that Alice Hamilton variant is particularly tempting after viewing your photos. Absolutely charming! Do you mind if I ask which nursery sells this particular OB? After I submit my comment, I'm heading over to HMF to search for AH. When roses are named after people who grow or propagate them, I want to know more! I wish the Chinas were a bit happier in Portland. I used to grow a number of them, and OB was a favorite of mine for its delicate clusters of flowers, for its long bloom season and, perhaps most of all, for its ancient history. Carol

Mine are blooming so much that I'm concerned what will happen to them if they don't go dormant before the oncoming freeze. Right now I have great, large blooms on these:

Joseph's Coat with Angel Face a close second. JC is blooming even more than Molineux in the late summer/fall of this year. Then again Molineux is new this year and Joseph's Coat is about two years old.
