Should I wait until spring to plant potted roses?

I got some potted roses this fall and I was wondering what the best time to plant would be? I want to amend the soil first and I'm worried that a boost of fertilizer would be bad for the roses this late in the year. We aren't expecting frost any time soon, maybe not until December, and roses usually bloom through October here. Should I amend the soil and plant now, or amend the soil and let it sit over the winter and plant in the spring? I'd rather plant now because I'd like to let the roses establish their roots during the winter.

Thanks!
