Ric-VA-commenting on an older post. I have both and maybe JFK/Pascali(lost the nametag, so don't know if it's jfk/pascali) . PJPII fragrance is not as strong as sugar moon, but it's so Amazing in it's own way and so is the flower form and shape. Planted near the front door and I can smell it every time. Got this one from a nursery and it was already a lush looking plant-probably bare root planted maybe from Weeks. Sugar Moon, got own root fro RUnlimited in 2017, this year the small plant is valiantly putting out new branches and blooming non stop- It is never without a bloom(love it so far), came through our bad winter without any diebacks-there was no winter protection. SM has an amazing strong fragrance and so is the flower- it blooms slowly and the slow progression of the bloom lasts atleast a week, and then suddenly it goes from looking like an HT rose to a peony. I love both and they are special in their own way and worth buying. JFK / Pascali great looking HT flower, very slight fragrance(hard to tell, we had non stop rain), lots of new canes. Need to watch for black spot...My recommendation is ofcourse-Buy both of them. In the white category-I also have Bolero(too small, have not bloomed yet), Iceberg(bareroot, 1st year, loaded with buds but has not yet bloomed), LilyPons(cute with pointy petals, can't detect any fragrance, flowers which started of small are are getting bigger), rugosa alba-intensely pure rose fragrance(can smell it across the yard-suburban), miniature white rose from walmart- unknown but a bloom machine.

You should never have to submit a photo to prove that a rose you received was mislabeled ... is that what RVR is requiring nowadays? I hope this is just a misunderstanding because I have always received really good plants from them. A phone call to straighten out the situation may be the best thing to do. In the case of mislabeled plants, we never know when a tray or rack full of plants will get knocked over or dug through by a critter. We do what we can to put the labels back where they belong, but mistakes are inevitable. It's how we correct those mistakes and make them that matters. Here's a good story of a mislabeled plant: In 2010, I ordered 'Shower of Gold' from Vintage. This is a once-bloomer, and I wasn't going to see flowers on it till at least the next year. 2011 came, and deer ate every bud on the plant ... no flowers that year either. In 2012, I was anxiously awaiting flowers and I did what I could to deter the deer. The buds swelled and opened ... pink. Contacted Gregg at Vintage. He immediately promised to custom root a correct plant for me. It took a year and a half for that plant to be mature enough to ship ... I received it in late April of this year. No proof required, no time limit on the guarantee, just straightforward action. The moral is ... it's not the fact that mistakes are made. We are all human and no one is perfect. It's the way that the mistakes are handled and made right that is the measure of a business ... any kind of business.

I have never grown a lilac or forsynthia myself. We do have lilacs on our property but they're about 12 feet tall and about that wide. I apologize if you feel that I'm unwarranted in worrying, but to each their own I guess. I understand that John Davis roses are extremely hardy, as I have read they are hardy to zone 2. But these are very small bands with very little root system. This is why I am concerned about them surviving the winter. When I said they were growing quite well, I probably should have given you more information. When I got these they were tiny, only had a few leaves, and a bloom on each. Now that I've seen some other bands, I realized that these were not very developed plants. I planted them directly into the ground. My dog trampled one of them and snapped the main cane clean off at the soil line, and a squirrel or some other critter dug both of them up. They went through a lot this summer and I realized that planting things directly into the ground at this size does not work well for me. After Max trampled one I put up the little mesh fence around them but something climbed in any way to dig them up. So when I said they were growing well, what I probably should have said is they look better now than they did when they arrived. They've put out new leaves and the one that was crushed by my dog has put out 3 tiny baby canes with lots of healthy leaves. For me, this was a success because I wasn't sure they'd grow at all since I heard not to expect ANY growth from them this year. I put them back in the band pots and fertilized them once a week and they've done wonderfully. Last weekend I transplanted them into big gallon pots and gave them some topsoil and mulch. I've been keeping them watered, and I the mulch has kept them from drying out. The patio they are on is shaded during the hotter parts of the day so I think that has helped them as well. They seem to be doing well in there so I'm not too worried about the extra attention it takes to grow them in pots. I understand if that's not everyone's cup of tea but I do not mind that at all. I'm more concerned w/ what will give me the best odds of overwintering them. I would rather spend more time keeping them alive in pots if that's going to be their best odds of surviving. I'd rather get these babies more developed before I plant them directly into the ground. Just trying to learn from my previous mistakes. I think I will try burying them in the pots as Seil suggested and hope that they make it through! Thank you all for your feedback! I appreciate the help.

Hi Maurizio Yes i know the rose grower you mention . He is very reputable and his roses are of the finest quality . His Alister clark roses are wonderful = Lorraine Lee , Marjory Palmer etc etc .We have purchased thousands of roses from him for our 12 acre rose gardens in counrty victoria Australia . Our garden is open to the public on weekends = Bleak House gardens Malmsbury . Cheers Pamela
