Ya'll i swear, i don't think it is EVER gonna rain at my house. I got all of a measly 1/4 of an inch Friday - and a few drops yesterday.

If misery loves company, here it comes! I got less than 3/4" from that "disturbance" over the weekend. I tried digging in the back yard this afternoon and it's no use - the earth is like concrete. Seems like it gets worse every year....

I understand totally - the only place i can dig at all is the beds that are already established - the ones that i am watering on a daily basis - i am gonna have to invest in more soaker hoses!

Dottie, I know about the car washing thing, but my understanding is that one must wash one's car then take it out on rain-slicked roads for a good mud rinse ..... and given the price of gas that joyride just wasn't in the cards! We got a teaser the other night, not enough to even register in the rain gauge. but the thunder brought back memories of times long past - i.e. real rainstorms :o( I have no lawn area, thank goodness, and water by hand (to ten or fifteen count at the base of each plant/shrub 'bout once a week). Water restrictions have never affected or bothered me - hope this year is the same. I don't overdo. What does bother me is that water conservaion should be practiced by all, all the time - not just to make good press copy. As much as I love seeing homes w/rolling, lush lawns, they are ecologically soooooo unsound. Off my soapbox now ......

Thanks, everyone for your kind thoughts. I wish I could tell you we had lots of rain, but in the end it only amounted to .02". Nevertheless, it was wonderful to have most of the day cloudy with those little on -and- off showers. It has been a long time since we could enjoy being outside nearly all day. We are supposed to have a system come in this weekend to give us more chances for rain, so hopefully this will happen. I had better get busy and dance some more to keep the rain coming. LOL. Avedon

Yep Michelle, that is why I saw them today because I feed them mealworms and waxworms daily. I have been giving them extra since that fledging last week to help out more with the little non flyer. They will stick around until late Oct/early Nov here in Central WI, they don't overwinter here. I usually switch to dried mealworms by the middle of Oct so they don't stay around longer than they should. There are no berries left around here in the Winter and the only food would be whatever I would give them. I have tried and tried but have never been successful with getting them to eat suet. Donna

The West coast has a very different climate from the East coast. On the West coast we have hot dry summers and wet, but relatively mild, winters. The vast majority of the rain during the year falls in winter. This does have an effect on what type of plant species do well. Another effect, if you look anywhere on the globe, the West coast for a continent always has an North-South divide, with the South being very dry and the North being very wet, but for the East coast it is kind of the reverse, with the South being very wet and humid and the North being a bit dryer. This has to do with the Coriolis effect and ocean currents, since the earth is spinning from West to East, currents have a natural way of seeming to drift West, that is in a counterclockwise direction. So Guangzhou, China has a seasonal climate very similar to Miami, Florida, while Los Angeles, California, has a very similar climate to Lisbon, Portugal.

Seriously guys, we desperately need some rain! Nelson, we didn't even get enough from that system to measure! I really don't want to see what my water bill is going to be this month. May need to take out a loan to pay it!!

YES! I agree.

I am in Alabaster, and they just put us on alert because our wells are going dry. We can only water our lawns two days a week between certain hours of morning and evening.

When, oh when will we get some rain??

I'm going to a class reunion this weekend, so I'll call my dancing 'rain dances', LOL. We had rain a week ago when some of you were dry, but nothing since. I'll be watering again if we don't get something today.

Glad that I have 2 wells on my property one I get about 5000 gallons a day that pumps into the pond and the other for watering about 1000 a day that fills 2 - 275 gallon tanks to use as I need it but the pond has dropped about 4 inches (about 50000 gallons) so would love to see some here also but looks like only 20 percent chance all next week but better than the 0 percent chance right now!

I've had about 1.5" since May 10th. Looks like another dry summer this year.

Yes, i totally agree - NOTHING is working - running sprinklers all day USED to do it - automatically - gonna try washing my car too, since it DOES need it really bad! :)

I am ready to do a rain dance or whatever it takes to get some rain. Here around Dothan we are parched. Thought TD1 would bring us some rain but looks as if it is all going east of us.

Even though we use a well, watering will have to stop at some point. Just sickening.

Well, I broke the spike on my sprinkler trying to get the stupid thing into the dry, hard ground!!! UGH!!!! I have sandy soil on a lot of my property and it dries out really fast. This is going to be a LONG Summer!

I had 5 minutes of sprinkles this morning that really helped thought maybe burning out a stump would help bring a bunch of rain to put it out. No luck it is burning away!
