Strawberry Hill... Can you tell me about her?
Comments (11)Hi Rebecca -- I live in a completely different climate zone but here are some photos of my SH planted in spring 2016. It didn't grow much because I discovered a water leak in the area that's making the ground a bit too wet for roses. These photos show the variability in color and form of this rose. I think it does have the myrrh fragrance but it's not over powering. The canes are very thin but not especially thorny -- see photo below. Love the stamens and strawberry milk color. Another look, almost like Scepter'd Isle for this particular bloom. This was taken in late fall and incorporates the deeper orange (?) shade along with the pink. This photo was taken at Regan Nursery in early spring and shows the orange shade quite well. My SH never got this ruffled edging which I had hoped for. I ordered my SH from DA. Very late fall, in November I think. The light pink went away entirely and became almost entirely this salmon shade. I hope to get some growth this year and to attach an obelisk or some climbing structure. Hope this helps you decide. Ann...See MoreWhy Is My Strawberry Hill Not Growing?
Comments (4)Every variety has its own growth schedule. Some seem to leap right up while others sit for a long time before they wake up and grow. I would be patient. It could be busy growing a big root ball before it decides to take off....See MoreJubilee Celebration and Strawberry Hill
Comments (6)I love your photos of JC and SH!! My JC is also more apricot. I like it in pink too! Mine is grafted and still remains on the smaller side. It also nods. Strawberry Hill has such a unique fragrance that I have come to love! I think it is one- and perhaps, my very favorite, rose scent now. I have a DH grafted one and an own root. It seems to do better grafted here. They are both in pots....See MoreStrawberry Hill ?
Comments (11)@htracyn79 PNW-8B - Great to know and thanks for those beautiful pictures. it really shows the sometimes orangey color the pink gets that I liked. How long has yours been in the ground? Mine have only been this past season, so maybe I'll give them another year or two. I noticed her shiny foliage this summer too. Was nice against the flowers. @mossy44_z7bwa Thanks for the suggestion to give them some more time. Those pictures are beautiful too! I've wanted to try training a rose up a pillar to add height to my garden. Looks perfect with your Strawberry Hill, great job. Will be interesting to see how she does after winter. If she ends up being decently cane hardy, maybe I'll give it a try....See MoreSow_what? Southern California Inland
