Sharing a tip about bush beans I learned long ago
Comments (47)"I am about to try this with some beans grown early in a greenhouse which have now stopped producing. I am doubtful it will work as unlike leafy plants which will respond to cutting by growing more, beans grow in order to produce seed to reproduce the plant. Having taken 6 kg of beans away (all quite young) I imagine the plants are fairly exhausted and may not have the resources to produce all the extra needed vegetative growth and then more pods (forming seed is a very energy demanding process)." Under those conditions, it might be helpful to lightly fertilize. Use a water-based fertilizer, once only. This goes against conventional wisdom, since this forum is full of "lots of leaves, but no beans" posts caused by excessive N...but this should shock the plants back to their vegetative growth cycle. The plants may not be as exhausted as you think, if you always harvested before they formed seed....See MoreRose poster from long ago

Comments (33)Thank you so much for the photos, Alana. The blooms are very similar. Ombrée Parfait is as rich and yummy as OdJ. I know that some of the purple Gallica varieties do have smaller blooms than others such as CdR, for one. Your OP looks like it boasts CdR's form and white-based petals (petal part emerging from the receptacle--whatever that portion is called) crossed with Tuscany Superb's burgundy wine coloring. Pretty! :-) It will be interesting to see how the blooms on OdJ compare to OP's as your plants mature. My garden is increasingly becoming saturated with purple OGRs! Of course, that's a good thing, right? I continue to wait for OP/Alice Vena plus another purple Barden rose or two...plus, perhaps, Tour de Malakoff. I wish I could cram William Lobb into my tiny lot! Then I start ambushing friends with my gifts. Carol...See MoreTrying to contact Long Ago Roses.....
Comments (13)@sharon2079. Here's the latest from Linda. There was a problem with an ip address being blacklisted. Someone else from here, other than myself, evidently has been in contact with Linda, as well. Here's the email she sent: John, I sent my site server people the kickback info provided by someone on GW trying to contact me. They said the following: "Thank you, this does show it was a Homestead ip address that was blacklisted, I will alert the team that monitors the blacklisted ips and get this rotated out to continue communication. Please allow a couple hours for this to get rotated out. " I hope that will solve it. I still wonder if there's a separate issue with using a " send email" form rather than typing in my email from their email. I am hesitant to post this info on GW myself as I mostly try to avoid mentioning business stuff there. I hope you'll feel free to post it if you like. Thanks, Linda I hope this resolves the issue, Sharon. Please try emailing Linda one more time. Good luck! John...See Morecarla17
