Legends is known for it's large blooms, mine is still just a little baby bush but nonetheless it produces huge blooms.

'Just Joey', 'Medallion', and 'Peter Mayle' here. The cooler weather of fall after a season of growth provides the largest, prettiest flowers. Summer heat reduces the size.

Legends gave us the biggest blooms this year with Valencia a close second.

All of my roses are in their 1st year in the ground or are bands so hard saying. So far though, it's been Belinda's Dream and Abraham Darby. Red Eden has the largest globular blooms. Pat Austin has respectable size. I have an Evelyn and Golden Celebration that I think will eventually catch up to the rest in size.

Legends is the biggest, by far, and then perhaps Valencia. I've seen huge at shows on Parole and Radiant Perfume. My Legends is still a small rather wimpy plant too, so it takes the whole summer to whomp up enough plant energy to throw a bloom -- but when it does, it's a wowser.

Off the top of my head I would say my biggest flowers come off of Legends, Tivoli Gardens, Elina, South Seas, Memoire, and I think I would add Blueberry Hill to the list, especially in cooler weather. Weather conditions change the whole picture, but the above list is the most consistent.

For me it's either

1.) Stephens Big Purple - it gets about 15 super huge (6" flowers) all at one time and has a really quick repeat. I'm amazed by this rose. Wonderful scent - oh my goodness!!

2. Valencia - size - can't remember - maybe 5 1/2"? Maybe about 4 blooms at a time.

Hot Princess. Needs watering, fertilizing (a lot), spraying, all that crazy stuff. When it is "on" I get a vase full that look better than blooms you get from a florist.

Just Joey and First Prize for me. I don't treat them any differently than others.

Here 'Just Joey' blooms steadily if not prolifically--mine could be better sited--it's in the shade of a huge 'Sombreuil'.

The flowers are sadly ephemeral in hot weather: a cool-summer climate would probably be ideal.

My 'Peace' roses would at times have pretty decent size blooms of 5" to 6" in diameter.

Paul Neyron! In spring, it takes two cupped hands to hold one flower. Chicago Peace is big, too.

This week, Elina is the largest, but if Valencia (slow blooming cycle) ever kicks in, it may equal or exceed the size of Elina.

The biggest blooms in my garden in San Diego so far were coming from 'Bewitched' and 'Memorial Day'. I got both roses as bands last winter and I was absolutely stunned seeing the size of the flowers that these relatively young roses were able to produce. On top of that both roses smell delicious!

I had 'Memorial Day' in my old garden in the Bay Area, too, and the flowers on the mature rose were humongous.

Unfortunately I have never actually measured the sizes of my rose flowers. After reading this thread I will in the future :-)!

Brigadoon for me. I look at the size of the blooms and marvel.

Mine would be a close tie between Dolly Parton and Fragrant Cloud - bonus that they both smell amazing!!

I second Memorial Day and also the pesky Mister Lincoln. Not many of them on the Mister, but they are huge.

I never get more than one flower at a time on Rose Gaujard, but it is ridiculously large, like a young Savoy cabbage. Not a rose to recommend, though. Just now the silly flower is set off by all black leaves! When they drop as they soon will, the rose will really look like a lollipop on a stick.

We have a very old (est planted in the late 1940s or 1950s) plant of Peace which puts out a few huge (6" across at least) blooms in the Spring. No special care. As a matter of fact, we think this was a regular sized Peace which then sported & turned into a climber as the pomegranite bushes behind it deprived it of light -now it is climbing up into the top of the pomegranite bushes.

Thank you all for your suggestions! I have several of these rose bushes, although some are only two to three years old.

I think I have to move to Vancouver if I want to grow rose bushes that drip petals from huge blooms like those I saw years ago on Victoria Island.

My biggest blooms ever were from Medallion--up to 7 inches in diameter. But it hates rain and does better in more temperate climates, so I don't have it any more. Valencia and Peace and Chicago Peace have all given me an occasional 6" bloom, but even their 5" blooms are so fat and full of petals that they look quite impressive.

Once again, Veteran's Honor huge blooms. The unopen blooms are almost florist size and when open they are sight to behold. The stems are a little on the weak side, but I love VH...have three of them.

Adrian, Good subject. I live on Vancouver Island, I think that is what you meant when you said Victoria Island, anyway for me too, I second Just Joey. I measured 7.5 inches twice this year and almost on par is St Patrick - huge blooms also.

They have been my largest blooms from approx 200 rose bushes.

First Prize, Veterans' Honor, Legends, Elina, Valencia, Pristine, and Moonstone are probably my largest roses I have grown. Lucille Ball is starting to put out some outstanding roses for size, color, and form now that it is finally established in my garden after four years of babying her along. But, she is definitely worth it!!
Commonwealth Glory and Westminster Pink have produced formidably large blooms too.

Has anyone seen Buxom Beauty (quite the name). I saw it at Heirloom this past summer. Huge blooms, deep pink, fragrant, disease resistant in their no-spray garden. I want it but they do not sell it yet. They are only growing it to torture us all. . .

My largest blooms are Veteran's Day and Elina, which grow side by side in my garden and often share the same vase in my house. Beauties!!

Right now mine is Mr Lincoln. Only a few blooms, not very prolific, and they fade quickly in this heat, but worth it to me. This one is about 6 inches across as evidenced by the $5 bill with it. THat particular bloom has been open for almost a week and we are above 90 still most days, so its not quite as red as it should be. I hear Lincoln likes cooler weather to be really red. This particular bush was one of my death rack roses that had about 6 leaves in all. I am glad to say it recovered quickly! I cant wait to see what it does next year since it is happy right now, it ought to go gangbusters.

Legends here also, for a named rose.

I don't have Legends, but can attest to it's huge bloom size. I saw one waiting to be sold in a pot at the nursery and it still had a massive bloom. I can only imagine how big the blooms get on a mature rose in the ground.

I was in shock at how large the blooms were....it's almost hard to call it a rose as the blooms were bigger than my HEAD!!!....LITERALLY. I just can't get over how large the blooms are. Definitely one rose I will get down the road simply because it's remarkably special for the size of the blooms.

I think our weather here is ideal for growing Roses and mine were really showing off this year, and still are for that matter.
We continue to have days in the high 60's and nights in the high 40's with rain about once a week or so.

This season, my biggest bloom is Color Magic, which also has a delightful sweet fragrance. It was one of two rescued wax-coated body bags from Home Depot for about 3 bucks each. I bought two of them. They have become one of my favorites.

Bella'roma wins hands down for the biggest bloom in my garden....
I used to have Dolly Parton and she had gorgeous red-orange huge blooms!Whomever named this rose was right-on!

My Don Juans seem to come thru', as well as Tiffany and Sweet Surrender.. the humidity is always a problem with black spot tho'....

I wonder how Paul Neyron compares to largest modern roses. In the public rosegarden here Paul Neyron is on average a bit larger than Peace, but there might be several reasons for that.

My Memorial Day gets huge blooms consistantly. Others are large sometimes and sometimes not so large. Electron gave me a couple of giants this spring but the fall blooms were smaller. I don't understand you all getting huge blooms on Just Joey. I get few blooms and they're always small when I do get them. Hmmm...maybe mine's a dud?
