Palatine Roses open for ordering

I'm surprised not one has posted this, but Palatine Roses has opened their site for ordering. Palatine grafts on R. multiflora rootstock.

In the past couple years, Palatine has become one of my favorite places to order roses--when I need bareroots. When I want potted, Roses Unlimited is my favorite.

Of course, there are other excellent places out there also and I periodically order from a number of them also.

This is my first order from Palatine, I almost did last year but when I went back the ones I wanted were sold out, so I figured I'd better order early this time around.

Now if I could only order some more garden space ;)

Hot Cocoa is relatively disease resistant, it may get some anthracnose (a fungal disease) late in the season, but not horrible. Synthetic fungicides are applied as per the directions on the container. Most have a 7 - 14 day cycle. Bayer Advanced Disease Control for Roses, Flowers, and Shrubs is popular with those here on the forum who use a fungicide regularly. Heirloom sells small plants (rooted cuttings), so they need a little extra care. They may need to be put into a little larger pot, and kept in dappled shade until they harden off. They can't be exposed to direct sunlight right out of the box, the leaves will fry. A couple of weeks in dapples shade, and gradual exposure to direct sunlight will harden them off.

The only caution I would offer is ... what rootstock are these roses on? In the U.S., 'Dr. Huey' is most-common, and it tolerates SoCal soils and water well. In some places, 'Fortuniana' is used -- and it, too, is great in SoCal soils. But at least some Canadian growers use Multiflora rootstock. That rootstock does NOT tolerate alkaline conditions very well. If you live in an area where there are, or have been walnut orchards, and/or Oak Trees, your soil may be in the slightly- acidic range. In some parts of SoCal, though, the soils and water are in the alkaline range. I had recurrent chlorosis problems here, with roses growing on multiflora rootstock. when I was looking at their website there was so many pretty roses and I went back and forth on some of the pinks but there was something about that one that just grabbed my heart I think it's going to be a winner. Tiffany Lynn is such a pretty shade of pink and is going to be surrounded by other shades of pink and lots of white and some purple delphiniums and foxglove. Hopefully we are South enough in Oregon that Savannah will be happy in our Heat.

I've been waiting for weeks for them to open up ordering. I want PHILATELIE really badly! I ordered it last season, but they ran out and couldn't send me one. So I made sure I get mine and get it in November instead of March or whenever I opted for last time. Also ordered replacements for my own-root BUXOM BEAUTY/PAROLE that never did anything and finally died, and ANN HENDERSON who also died on me. And got ELFI VON DASSANOWSKY because I love that light pink and yellow combo. Plus they have to replace two of my roses from last season. I got a mis-marked MONTE CARLO COUNTRY CLUB and HARMONIE never broke dormancy.

Beth - I ordered Buxom Beauty from Palatine this year, they've done really well, lovely fragrance. From what I've seen here, looks like I better reserve my roses soon. They have a great selection. The roses are really good quality and they have been very helpful when I've called with questions.
