Can I save my bare root roses that have dried out?
Comments (3)If all canes have gone wrinkled it doesn't look good, but if some part of the cane still are all right it's worth some extra effort. Spray them with water as often as you can, keep soil wet. Protect them from direct sunlight with at fabric or semi-translucent plastic (white or gray), and keep spraing with water. Before you go to bed, focus on the first star you see that night and wish for cloudy, rainy weather ;-)...See MoreA bare root rose from Palatine
Comments (5)Hoovb--I just got my Ascot from Palatine too! Along with 8 other roses. They all look to be great plants with parsnip like roots. Diane--Thanks on the size of Ascot. Helpmefind has it as being 0.0065' to 1" high! I figured it would be a small rose (but not that small!) maybe 2 to 3 feet high. I will be sure to give it plenty of room now....See MoreCan RRD be imported into my garden on bare root roses?
Comments (2)Rebecca, it is possible for the rose to have rrd but there would not be any living eriophyid mites on there to spread the disease. The e-mite is the only known vector/spreader of the disease rose rosette. There are not many reported cases up your way but they are there. Heck you could visit a rose garden and bring a mite home on your clothing. They can't fly and so depend on the wind, insects and other means on transportation to get to your roses. Hope that this helps....See MoreWho is eating my very first baby bare root rose?
Comments (16)The leafcutter holes on my roses are the same size as on my peonies. I grew up seeing leafcutter bee cut leaves. My step dad rented the bees as did all the farmers. They are also wild around here. The only thing I can offer is possible different varieties of leaf cutters, or a totally different insect doing the damage. However, after seeing the photos in the link, I may have learned something new today (at my age), and the peony damage certainly looks like weevil damage. Not going to worry about it. This stuff comes and goes and doesn't seem to increase around here. Thanks for the info, Patty. Diane...See Morerosecanadian
