Confused - Anna Olivier vs Bermuda Anna Olivier

From past threads - it looks like there are two Anna Olivier - one with blush tones - and one that is the bermuda version that is yellower?

Who sells the blush toned one please?

We were told by the Australian tea ladies that the Bermuda Anna Olivier is Etoile de Lyon.

Last time I looked Vintage Gardens was selling the correct buff version, but only as a rose that they will specialty root for you if you order it - so it takes a while. They got theirs from cuttings from an old plant in my garden (at the time Gregg told me that the correct version was not in commerce in No America). The Historic Sacramento Cemetery has a plant which is still marked with its study name of "Schmidt's Buff Giant" - they have plant sales a few times a year, maybe you could convince them to root it for sale.

If you ever get to No Cal I would be glad to give you cuttings - I have 3 plants of it now in my garden - the 90 plus year old original, and two that I rooted from it.

Well, I suppose I could try harder to watermark my future photos, but there's no way I'm going back to watermark all of the past ones. I don't really see the need though. All of those googled photos came from this forum, HMF or my blog. None were pirated by another website. If there were a way to make money from my photos - or my blog - I would love to, and I would protect the photos, but since I can't figure out the blogger monetizing system, I think not. And unless the watermark is plastered across the middle of the photo, it can easily be cropped out. Then what? I'd rather let a beautiful photo be seen. I kind of think that if someone wants to prevent the replication of their photos, they shouldn't put them on the web, because the instant they're up there, they're gone. Like Hoovb noted, China has probably never heard of the honor system and obviously doesn't respect copyright laws. I post my photos to bring pleasure to other gardeners and to cultivate interest in OGRs. And Connie, your saying that my photos caused you to acquire Bermuda's Anna Olivier is a thrill. I wish I got that kind of feedback more often. I sure hope she does well for you. This is only my perspective as someone who does not make my living with my photos like Floridarosez said. Thank you for posting, I'm always delighted to see an Old Garden Rose grown where I might not expect it to be growing. I visit the home gardens of vintagegardens.com every year, and they sell the original form of "Anna Olivier" which has apricot and buff hues. You might e-mail and ask if they will have it for sale later this year, as they rotate their inventory of roses for sale, during each year. vintagegardens' "Anna Olivier" is the most strongly scented Tea rose I've ever smelled, with a deliciously heady blend that includes ripe stone-fruit, Damask rose and mixed floral scent notes. I blush to say that I crave the fragrance of "Anna Olivier" as if it were a drug. Lux.

Hi Melissa, when I upload a photo (I use a Mac - OS X 10.10.2 and still use iPhoto because I didn't like the new 'Photos' app which appeared with 10.10.3)! I keep a folder on my Desktop called Gardenweb and when I want to upload a photo I go to iPhoto, select the image then click on File - Export - and where it says 'Size' I click on the drop down arrow to select Custom and then select Maximum dimension of 1000 px' - choose a name for the image and export to my Gardenweb folder. Then, when I want to upload a photo I click on the 'Camera' icon under this box and select the Gardenweb folder on the Desktop and then select the photo I want and hit Choose. The photo then appears in the message I'm typing. As for my Anna Olivier, I bought it from Sergio Scudu of S'Orrosa last May - I just went to double check his website - http://www.saorrosa.it/il-cuore-della-collezione/le-nostre-tè-1/ but can't find Anna Olivier listed. I remember when I asked whether he had it he said that the plant was very young, however, it's grown well and is now in the ground. I've never seen any hint of yellow to 'my' AO, however, I know it's supposed to look a lot like Lady Roberts (which I also have and which is definitely Lady Roberts) but the blooms it had last Summer didn't look like LR either. Here's a photo of AO, still in her pot, taken last July - And here's one of Lady Roberts, taken in June - Here's another of a bud of Lady Roberts taken on the 8th November - I guess I'll have to wait until next Spring and see how Anna Olivier flowers now that she's in the ground. I gave her a big mulch of oak leave this afternoon so perhaps she'll be grateful and repay me with lots of Spring growth! Tricia

Yes! The waiting is hard, but planning my list gives me something to do when I can't sleep! : )) My main problem with ARE is that I'm rapidly buying all those appropriate for my climate, wants and needs. : (( I'm also exhausting those from HCR and since Chamblee has cut back on its offerings so much, it's almost useless for me, but they still have some I'm ordering. Then I guess I'll have to rely on Burling! That's OK as I'm MUCH better taking care of bands and growing them large by the end of summer.

Contact Linda at Long Ago Roses. She's a really nice lady and her website says her Anna Oliver is apricot. I bought the Bermuda version this spring because I heard it smelled wonderful (makes sense that the Austrailians think it's Etoile de Lyon--I've heard that one has a great fragrance, too.) It's living in the pot ghetto until next week when I have a few days off. I missed its only bloom because I went out of town.

I'd love to know what Linda says about her Anna Oliver.

That is a very sweet offer Jackie, thank you! Unfortunately I doubt I will be headed that way anytime soon, not to mention I cannot root a thing from cuttings no matter what I try. I have great respect for nursery owners who keep creating plants in such numbers!

To summarize the current wisdom as we know it:

"Schmidt's Buff Giant"=the real Anna Olivier
Thank you, Jackie!!!! and thank you to the Tea Bags for the ID. This is a wonderful vigorous plant with spectacular camellia-like foliage. Mine is being eaten by "Moser House Shed Rose"/"Aracta Pink Globe" and will need new digs soon. It always has bloom, almost or maybe as much as Jackie's Le Vesuve.

"Bermuda Anna Olivier"= Etoile de Lyon
This was my conclusion, so I'm glad to hear it was confirmed by the Tea Bags. Except for how badly the blooms finish, this is one of my favorite Teas. It's the yellow Tea to grow if all the others were busts.
