Chrysler Imperial has a good scent, but had difficulty in my garden when I was spraying. I have had Mister Lincoln, and at one time I had a bed of them, but they also needed to be sprayed. I don't know what the VID means. I needed to spray Crimson Glory too. These roses had some black spot even when I sprayed.

William Smith seems to be ok at this point. It is a beautiful rose.

I am very interested in how your other roses do. I have pulled 75 at this point, and feel like my yard is empty, even though I still have many roses. I cannot safely plant until about March.

I don't know what "VID" means but if it is the Mr. Lincoln HT it is indeed very fragrant. Very good cutting rose, but a very awkward growing habit. It has very long canes (over 6ft) growing in every direction (not necessarily upright) thereby taking up a lot of space. I am no midget at 5'10'', but the flowers still come up above my head. So when I come out into the front yard, I first look around to see if any neighbors are watching, and then discreetly jump up and down to try and smell them. It is definitely leaving my garden:-)

I just ordered some TNs from Vintage and passed up on Kaiserin Freidrich (it was on the short list though). I hope you will tell us how it does.

I don't know how Mr. Lincoln does as far as disease resistance is concerned, but it's very red, leaning toward purple, very fragrant, and quite tough. I don't like its fully opened form, but I think that's a common fault in Hybrid Teas.

Mme. Jules Bouché is grown, I am told, the length and breadth of Italy, one of the commonest pass along roses and a marvelous variety: I got it as cuttings from my neighbor's plant and have seen it growing here and there locally. It's an old HT with a lot of Tea character, healthy, vigorous, and beautiful. The flowers are Tea scented, the plant is just about unkillable. It gets a little mildew, nothing serious, and is easy to root from cuttings. Treat it like a Tea rose, and sit back and enjoy. My plants, abused, get about five feet tall and are fairly upright, but I'm told that when well treated it will reach ten feet.

Mme. la Duchesse d'Auerstaedt is a wonderful rose for me, but I must add that my plant is grafted and I'm not sure that I've heard of plants in the U.S. getting as large as mine does: it's about eight feet tall and fifteen feet wide, trellised along my terrace railing. This is an extremely grand rose, with red new growth and golden yellow, globular, large, fragrant flowers; the plant is healthy and tough. As you can see, I'm a fan.

These are the roses on your list that I've grown. Have fun making your choices! it sounds like a good bunch of varieties.

Carrie, I have a few of these.

Chrysler Imperial was one of my first roses and it really does have fairly good blackpot resistance in my garden. Keeps most of it's leaves. Huge blooms that are very fragrant. I love it.

William R. Smith is a favorite. The blooms are large for a Tea and beautiful. The bush is huge. Seriously. He doesn't seem to mind some pruning. I try to keep him at about 6-7 feet. He would easily be 8-10 feet if I let him go. Gets some BS here but keeps most of his foliage and regrows the leaves he loses.

Mme. Jules Bouche is new to me so I can't really give you an assessment yet. So far, the blooms are very pretty, a few blackspot leaves.

Mrs. Charles Bell takes a while to get established on her own roots but she really took off last year and has formed a beautiful bush that was over 5 ft tall this year. The rebloom and number of blooms increases as she gets established. Blooms are a pretty peachy pink color and of course she is fragrant. Again, some blackspot but keeps most of her foliage.

CdB is only 3 years in my garden from a small band and she is over 5 ft and blooms a lot. She was fairly clean all year but started dropping leaves and having blackspot problems this fall. Still has a fair amount of foliage and has a really nice fragrance.

Gloire won't keep a leaf here. I have two plants, one grafted and one ownroot. I'm glad she does well for you. I've seen BdO but not grown it, and it is beautiful!

"VID" stands for virus indexed and means that the rose is free from RMV "Rose Mosaic Virus" that can cause decreased vigor and health.

We grow Coquette des Blanches, and it is a GREAT rose for us.

It took 3 non-blooming years to mature in our coastal garden, but has subsequently
never been out of bloom.
Coquette des Blanches is disease-free for us. That means no rust or mildew.
Our plant is easily 7-8 ft tall, upright, arching slightly outwards.
Despite alkaline conditions, the foliage is a rich, dark, holly-like green --
the foliage is a great foil for the crisp white blooms.
Blooms are small-ish, intricately-formed, and often held in small sprays,
sort of like a handfull of small snowballs.
