Every time I see a photo or a real live bloom from Kordes' Brilliant my mouth waters. It says it's an orange blend, but I usually see monochromatic, bright orange blooms. It's a shrub, though, and I'm not much into shrub roses....yet. I can say that my Kordes roses are very good as far as disease resistance.

I was searching for the perfect orange as well last year. I had considered Voodoo, Expression, Vavoom, Kanegem, and Folklore.
I ended up with Voodoo. While it's beautiful, it's always a blend & may only turn solid orange for 1 day while it's intensifying in sunlight. It's pretty good regarding BS, and I think I've sprayed it a total of 3 times this year with Bayer (for fungus only---not the one with the insecticide.)

I also have Tabasco Cat, which is a mini, and it's gorgeous. Very hot orange. I'd call it "Electrified Bloody Mary" if I had named it.

My Hot Cocoa has turned fully orange in the heat. Weird--earlier pix made it look nearly brown. Here it is now:

I like my old Tropicana too, but it's more of the deep salmon, in my opinion. It has a beatiful, even color quality and that's why I love it. However, the blooms are smaller and I still fight BS on her a tad bit.

We have dew points in the high 60's to low 70's during the dog days and a LOT of condensed moisture in the air during the morning & evening. Bad BS pressure, so I feel your pain.

I can't speak to their blackspot resistance, as we don't have that much here, but the orangest of the oranges for me are Kordes' Brillant, Halle and Clos Fleuri d'Or. The latter two bloom more often than Kordes Brillant, so I would lean towards those two.

Vavoom is orange-juice orange. Gingersnap is the old standard orange floribunda, lovely but a bit stingy. Not quite pure orange but I'm pleased with 'Easy Does It' so far. 'Livin Easy' is an orange blend with disease resistance.

Wildfire is a good orange HT, as is Cary Grant.

Trumpeter is the orangiest rose I ever had. It was too orange for me, but if that is what you want, you may like it.

Other oranges not mentioned are Impatient and Light My Fire. Trumpeter is on the red side of orange, but quite vivid. Vavoom's color in the heat tends more toward golden orange more than orange in cooler temps. Kordes' Brillant (the German spelling) is classified as a shrub in Europe because the grandiflora class is not recognized over there. Its flowering habit is actually closer to that of the grandiflora group consisting of single blooms and trusses as opposed to floribunda-type sprays. It can also get rather tall. The color on Kordes' Brillant, Light My Fire, and Impatient is quite stable and does not vary much by temperature or even age of the bloom. Perhaps this will help a bit.

THANK YOU ! Wow, do you folks ever deliver ! I do have Just Joey and Livin' Easy, near my Julia Child, and she is the star... they just sort of sit there.... Laura, our dew-point is usually in the high 70s into the 80s, almost daily now, and I am thinking of SPing Scentsational it is almost bare from BS... and Julia C. has no BS just a few feet away.... Diane, thanx for those Links, I had missed them... I'm leaning toward Tropicana, Hot Cocoa, Trumpeter... and thinking also of Octoberfest a Grandi... also a Cl. America.... can anyone comment on these? also maybe Cary Grant.... but I do want some taller roses to stand up over the Floribundas I have near the front of the beds..... Sally, my Cl America is more pinkish than orangey-orange. My brightest neon-orange rose is Impatient.

I took home Kanegem from our Rose Show in June and rooted cuttings. It bloomed last week and I was impressed with the really orange color of the flowers.

I grow Kordes Brilliant. It is an eye-searing orange, known to cause damage to the retina when stared at too long ;). It is a shrub, but after 3 years, mine is very manageable at about 4 feet. To me, it looks more like a floribunda in habit than a shrub. -Paul

LOL, Paul. I call roses with eye-searing coloration 'retina burners', and Kordes Brilliant definitely falls into this category. ;)

Thanks for all the great ideas, tell me, where do they carry these really orange-y darlings ? I need to try and get them on Fortuniana, because I am in Central Fla..... I usually get mine from K&M Roses, in Miss., they specialize in roses for this area and they graft, I have had good luck so far with them..... I did get Cl. America, Holleygarden, it is recommended for this area.... I also got another Julia Child, also Rio Samba, and Granada.... all on Fort. ..... Thanks folks, I'm going on Google and see what they have in info. abt. your recommendations, I have room for a few more roses !! ..... sally
