Outrageous Orange
Is there any other color that has quite the same ability to have an impact on the look of a room than orange? Orange can be warm, dramatic, traditional or modern, from a rich detail to a bold accent which defines the space. With the arrival of Fall, the harvest season and Halloween just a few weeks away, what a perfect time to look at the color orange in design.
While I found many fabulous examples of orange in design on Houzz, this staircase is the star. The orange runner sweeping up the treads is one of the most dramatic uses of orange I have seen, and the effect is enhanced by the stripe running along the line of the staircase.
Painting an alcove orange and then adding a coral print pillow and accent lighting...
adds up to divine, particularly when done in pairs.
Traditional and gorgeous, there is nothing like a chinoiserie wallpaper to add style to a room, especially when in orange and paired with sophisticated black accents.
In a room of neutrals the addition of a modern pendant, a mod chair and two sculptural giraffes, all in orange, add dramatic interest.
Yes, most people would not think of this room as outrageous, but I appreciate the warmth the touches of orange bring to the room, through the drapery panels, roman shades, pillows and a wingback chair. The room is very traditional but several modern touches, such as the zebra print rug, coffee table and twisted plywood light fixture, shake up this design.
Look at what a large accent wall painted orange can bring to a space that is otherwise filled with white and neutrals.
The additional small pops of orange seen on the pillows in the room help the accent wall feel right and complete the concept.
A very large dose of brilliant orange really works best when paired with neutrals, such as the whites and steel grays present in this kitchen.
The raised eyebrow says it all. Adding orange to a design has the ability to surprise and delight.
It isn't always the amount of orange used that creates the impact. Here a small dose of orange print goes a long way when seen on a chair from Anthropologie (with personality to spare) and placed against dramatic gray walls.
There is something incredibly charming about this space, the walls are covered with what? And the buffet in bright orange really does make the room sing.
An orange egg chair and ottoman in a white room...perfect.
Pops of orange brought in through accessories and a floral arrangement adds a dramatic pop of color to a design. This is particularly effective when done in this room of whites with a brilliant turquoise wall in the background.
Look closely at this room and observe the incredible abundance of pattern included in its design. Suzanni, plaid, zebra, leopard, floral and a bold geometric rug. How does it all work together? I think it does in large part due to the overriding presence of the four orange wingback chairs. What a wonderful example of how to mix pattern within a single room with success!
