Google Chrome Took Over
Comments (13)Hi owbist good question. I did a search. "The main advantage of Google Earth is the huge amount of resources that it can use since it is running locally on your machine. This allows the Google Earth application to perform much faster and with better features. Browsers were designed to have limited access to resources to prevent malicious people from gaining control of a computer that visits their site. For this reason, Google Maps are restricted to the browser. Users of Google Maps also need to have a speedy internet connection in order to talk to the Google Maps server. It the connection is very poor, the images make take a long time to load or even fail to in certain instances." http://www.differencebetween.net/technology/internet/difference-between-google-maps-and-google-earth/ And "They differ primarily in Google Maps being based on a 2D model and Google Earth using a 3D model. The other significant difference is that Google Maps is a Web application, while Google Earth is a stand-alone program that connects to the Internet." https://sites.google.com/a/kimbridges.net/google-earth-workshop/Home/background-information "Google Earth provides a more powerful, interactive user experience and offers more tools for learning about a location. The Google Earth experience is one of fast, fluid flight -- zooming and rotating and tilting imagery to view the geographic data you're interested in. You can wind along hairpin turns, view buildings in 3D, and fly to businesses near your favorite location," the Mountain View company explains." "Also, Google Earth allows you to easily measure distances and areas, draw lines and shapes, and even import your own data." http://news.softpedia.com/news/Google-Earth-vs-Google-Maps-65440.shtml...See Moreloaded toolbar with defragger

Comments (49)Unbeknownst to its users, Webshots employed its Webshots Desktop Application (a free program that users can download from their site to manage their online pictures) to install the Kiwee Toolbar as part of a software update for this program. Other than the Wikipedia article (whose references don't appear to have anything to do with the surreptitious installation of Kiwee) and complaints in support forums about problems getting it off a computer, I don't see anything about it being forced on users. Was it one of the many tools bars included with software that installed by default but unchecking a box provided an opt-out? I just don't know. Although several of the search hits I saw included the word "unbeknownst" which leaves me wondering if they were written by the same person or several people parroting the others. In any case, it seems more a case of poorly written code and even poorer judgment on the part of American Greetings than malware. American Greetings does offer instructions on how to remove Kiwee although it sounds like you need to install the latest, greatest version first. I'm not sure I'd be jumping at at offer. Gosh Durn Mike ~ Don't be so rude & judgemental! I didn't get "glitter text" intentionally. Do you have any idea of the number of computers I've looked at with upwards of a half dozen different tools bars installed? Every user claimed they never installed them. Yes they did, when the went click, click, click without bothering to read what was on the screen. Now maybe I got up on my soapbox a little too soon and American Greetings did install poorly written software on their customers' computers without their customers knowledge or consent. If that is the case, I would be writing a nice letter to Mr. Weiss letting him know why he won't be getting any more of my money. Even if it meant giving up a really pretty screen saver....See MoreIs there anyway to stop this?
Comments (14)Thank you for all of the information on Apps. I learned something new. Ninite is definitely for computers, they may now have an app for phones and tablets, I don't know. Raven, I believed you when you told me that it was a good program, I just got thrown by the word Apps, because I never really thought about it the way that it has been explained to me here. There are so many new things out now that it is hard for me to keep up with them all. Because of that I get lost in the terminology. I just purchased my first, new Laptop back in August with Windows 7 in it and I am still learning about Windows 7, it isn't as bad as I thought it would be but, I know it won't be long before Windows 8 will be out there and from what I saw it looks pretty neat but is a bit confusing to me. There are many reasons why I got behind but I won't burden you with those. It's still nice to know that I can get the help here and learn knew things again when needed. For all of you who have posted to this thread it is greatly appreciated and I sincerely mean that. thirdfrt!!!...See Morekittymoonbeam
