when DOES the ground freeze?
Comments (5)Sandy, if no one here can help with the answer, you might try contacting your local extension service to see if they have the answer. I know in the area of Indiana where I lived (west central), when the ground froze could vary wildly from year to year, depending on the winter trend of temps (and it sometimes thawed for awhile in Jan./Feb. for awhile) but maybe it's more predictable where you are. However, when it's too late to plant/move things may depend more on the air temp and time of year. Frost heaving of perennials could be a problem if the roots aren't established into the new ground so you don't want to plant too late, whether or not the ground is about to freeze. If the plants are too far into dormancy/going dormant when you move them, they won't be able to send roots into the new soil. Shrubs I'm not so sure about but some are better moved in spring anyway. Again, check with the extension service or ask around at your local nurseries. Good luck!...See MoreHow soon can my fig tree go in ground outside?
Comments (4)Is it dormant or does it have leaves? If it is dormant, you could plant it at any point when the ground is workable. I have had my fig outside since the 3rd week of February to prevent it from leafing out in the garage. If it has leaves then you need to wait until the danger of frost has passed in your area....See MorePlease critique this houseplan. Breaking ground soon!
Comments (46)The two people who can give you real advice are your architect friend from Colorado and your builder. Your architect friend can help you determine whether this plan fits your lot and your family and what changes can be made to make it ideal. Your builder can help you determine whether you can afford it. Before you buy plans, have your builder do a rough estimate what this house will cost to build. As we say in Colorado, "you're a bit out over your skis" before you have that information. I think this would be an appealing house on a lot with enough grade to make it a walk-out....See MoreCouldn't find info, how long does ground meat take to freeze
Comments (19)I would have shaped them with the container and removed them before freezing. There is a lot of moisture in ground beef and it will cause the meat to expand when it freezes. You could very well have had all the meat totally stuck in their cubes. I would have just popped them out, put them on a parchment lined baking sheet or shallow container and covered them with plastic wrap until they froze. In your situation of limited freezer space, once frozen I would have wrapped each one individually in plastic wrap and simply sealed them into any freezer safe container or even a zip lock bag. Actually I wouldn't have used the mold at all. I would have flattened the meat mixture to the thickness I wanted in a rectangular shape and cut the meat into squares like I would brownies or a sheet cake....See Moreclaireplymouth z6b coastal MA
