Kordes roses verdict: excellent
Comments (51)I love the Tantau roses I've acquired so far. I have three Bernstein-Rose (the full name) bushes which are small plants whose blooms look a lot like Julia Child's. The blooms are the same size as Julia's, but the plants are way smaller. I have them located on a lower level below my two JCs to kind of echo the Julias. B-R is very healthy with dark shiny green leaves and a nice compact growth habit. It's never supposed to have much size which is what I wanted in the small spaces they grow in. I also have had two stunning Tantau Ascot grandiflora roses for a year which I have been raving about for a while. The bareroot plants took off like rockets and are always in bloom. And they are only a year old. Don't overlook Tantau. Diane...See MoreKordes rose performance
Comments (51)Thanks, Sandandsun! Poseiden continues to do well in my garden, as do all of my Fairy Tale roses. I've added Golden Fairy Tale, Elegant Fairy Tale, and Garden Delight (all Kordes newer super healthy roses from Palatine Nursery) this year and they are doing amazingly well. Like many of you, we suffered the Polar Vortex Winter From Hell here in Northern Michigan this past winter and I had to prune my roses to the ground, including climbers. But the Kordes Fairy Tale and Kordes Rosanna climbers took off like gangbusters. I haven't sprayed at all this season, and these roses are super clean - no blackspot. I'm gradually replacing many of my more BS prone roses, with a heavy emphasis on the ADR award winning Kordes roses since I no longer spray. It is wonderful to be able to enjoy so many hardy disease free roses here in the north!...See MoreCan someone please enlighten me on golden fairy tale
Comments (2)Golden Fairy Tale, aka Sterntaler, is one that I would call a must-have. It has medium yellow flowers that are more old fashioned style rather than formal hybrid tea. The plant is quite healthy, but I do spray. It blooms most of the time. It does not have a strong fragrance to my nose, but fragrance is dependent on a person's olfactory senses, the ambient weather conditions, and the plant's genetics and ability to produce the volatile fragrance oils. The plant gets about 5 ft tall and a good 4 ft wide in my garden....See MoreOwn Root in PA--- Which should I choose? Mostly Fairy Tales
Comments (11)My James Galway is a year old on its own roots. He put out a few 6-7' long canes last summer, with one flower on the end. I pulled the canes downward (some of them are VERY stiff) and this year there were several blooms on short laterals. You can see what's left of the spring flush on him this year: most center blooms are done, and the blooms on the tall canes are done, and I'm left with these huge, heavy clusters on the shorter canes. 5-6 blooms in a vase perfume my dining and kitchen area quite well. We had a viciously cold and windy winter, which killed a neighboring Eden. James lost 6 inches on his longest cane....See Morekarenforroses
