lol catsrose! that's what i said after this spring, and meant it too. But i have resigned to no more until another irresistable sale. I was ahead of the game this summer making beds in the back yard with the rock i bought and figured next spring i would plant them, until i cashed in on the 2 vintage sales, skipping phase II as i already had bought some on the list already, but 60 roses later had to struggle to get more beds completed to be ready for them. I even made a couple of extra little beds, but the roses i want to put in them aren't on sale so i can wait. then i mowed the barn lot which sparked another idea to plant rugosas along the fence line to keep down the round up resistant, weed eater eater giant ragweed at bay, well perhaps in the next decade. I have to stop, i mean really, this is getting ridiculous. I wonder if aa works for roses?

I'm praying for no more sales. I did both phases of VG and Sherando's close-out. I do have to visit a friend in Fort Worth in Oct and I'm driving which means a stop at Chamblee's, but...I've used up all the beds, and edges; I've dotted my lawn with circles and diamonds, horseshoes and half-moons. Now I am faced with major tilling in the meadow. I want to put in a rose-studded maze and also a deer-proofed vegie plot. This takes serious planning...

You have lawn left? Now there's a planting opportunity right there that needs addressing. ;^)

I just love threads where people admit to going astray after they've sworn to themselves and anyone who is still listening that they will NOT be buying any more roses. I will say though that I've been rather good. Having one possible spot left because I killed my beautiful Rosette Delizy I've ordered only five roses to fill it. Well, Salet can go where one of my two Alfred de Dalmas is putting on a less than stellar show, The Fawn can be put by the guest room area when I rip out the second Janet there which has always been puny, Jasmina can go in place of E. Veyrat Hermanos, which is going to get too big, and Souvenir d'un Ami can go....oh, well, I'm sure I'll find a place....

I hadn't intended on getting anymore either, with the season winding down; however, a couple sales got me. Now I'm contemplating where I can squeeze in or enlarge another bed to add more roses next year. There are still mowable areas of the lawn that will just have to go.

I do have to visit a friend in Fort Worth in Oct and I'm driving which means a stop at Chamblee's,

We were there last fall, at the tail end of Oct., and it could not have been lovelier.
Their Fall Festival (no charge)this year will be Fri-Sun., Oct. 31-Nov. 2,
and it looks like a very good lineup.

I wish we could go, but TX is a long drive from SoCal, and gas is much
higher than it was last fall.

This is the first year that attrition overtook acquisition for me - altogether, I got rid of more roses than I acquired. The numbers on the negative side are due to disease attrition, shovel pruning, and the new game of giving things away.

Now, I have not included those 100 odd seedlings from the crosses carried out last year. That would be unfair. By year 3, only one or two of those would be left anyway.

I may miss the ARE festival but am going to try to get down there earlier in the week. It's a bit far for a side trip, but C's on the way in/out.

I'm keeping the grass in between the beds as walkways since it's already there. I can fit a few more in the front lawns, but I have to contemplate shapes. I'm working on pictures...
