WS tomato, heck yeah I'll do it again next year.
Comments (5)Beautiful, Melissa! Again, this hasn't been a great year for tomatoes in the North Country. My SIL just pulled out her purchased plants last week. For the 2nd year, they got some weird disease. I kept asking how theirs were doing and they said "fine" (I think there's some kind of specific "tomato pride" that people who garden sometimes have...never admit defeat). I wanted to see how there's were doing, because mine are in containers and I would move them to the front of the house if theirs weren't doing well, just to prevent any disease from transferring to mine. No such luck. My FIL told me they pulled there's up this weekend, and now, plants I had that were doing ok for the past two weeks are fizzling. Of the 6 WSed plants someone was nice enough to give to me,only one is doing well. The volunteer plants are doing good-- they took forever to come up, and they are far behind where they would normally be. I did Summer Sow some Toms to replace the others that never germinated, and those plants are doing very well. They are supposed to be especially bred for containers, and they are ready to go into their homes this week. (I think I need to do a test on those other seeds that I WSed. I've NEVER had a tom seed not germinate for me, no matter when I sowed it). Toms are expensive in the stores and farmers markets up here again this year-- a sign that everyone is having the same trouble. So you might be able to get a decent buck for yours if you get an over-abundance! :-) Linda...See MoreNext year I'll plant more
Comments (11)I'm actually going to plant next year!!. I buy all sorts of seeds and then never plant them. I hate trying to garden in NE Ohio, winter lasts too long. spring is 3 days in may or june. and by father's day drought seems to be setting in with the heat. by mid july everything is crispy and winter seems to start in september-- but you can be sure of snow before halloween, but the leaves haven't fallen yet. Ok, I exagerate, a bit. so next year i'm going to plant and actually water, to see what happens. I'm planting zinnias, zinnias and zinnias. I'm going to move my magnolia (not enough sun) i'm going to put in a korean spice viburnum, azalea viscosium, some type of an elderberry-- i think a cutleaf black one, ravenna grass, regular old joe pie weed. i'm going to dig up my failing front perrenial borders-- divide, separate, amend and lay out ina more outlandish color scheme (i'm actually going to put those bright orange poppies with dark purple iris and light blue catmint, and chartreuse alliums-- cause it works) I'm going to build proper trellises for my clematis. I'm going to plant basil, lavender, rosemary and thyme as well as dill and fennel. and I'm planting some tomatoes-- big fat juicy ones that taste like tomatoes are supposed to taste. OK everybody can email me next september and ask how it went. digger2...See MoreMore gardens next year

Comments (12)Sudie, I've been a lurker for awhile, and have just now "joined". I hope you don't mind my contribution! 1 - I shop for Christmas all year round (birthdays, too). I'm one of those oh-I-think-______-will-like-this type people. Everyone I know goes out and buys whatever they want when they want it, so there's really no point in me trying to get EXACTLY what I hear the person say they would like. I have no kids, so hubby and I don't have to worry about what the kids want from Santa. And - I have Christmas and/or birthday bought no later than September. 2 - When I buy something, I wrap it very soon after bringing it home. I have an empty closet in my office that houses all wrapping paper and bought gifts. So everything goes in there quite nicely! 3 - I have Christmas cards written and addressed no later than Oct 31. No one I know would up and decide to move, then get moved before Christmas, so change of address is not a problem. The week after Thanksgiving, dig the cards out and mail them. 4 - I am the boss at work, so I always close the day after Thanksgiving. That's when Christmas goes up. It WILL be finished before the weekend is over. I also close the day after Christmas. That's when it comes down. It WILL be down before the end of the day. Funny how Christmas doesn't take near as long to take down as it does to put it up! 5 - I'm with Labmomma (I'm a Pugmomma, BTW). Plastic bins are the best thing since peanut butter! Each bin(s) has it's own room, so I can bring everything down and put it back up without wondering where this or that is. And, if I decide I don't want a tree in our bedroom this year, I don't take that bin(s) down out of the attic. 6 - Everything I cook for Christmas must have nothing but fairly not perishable items. I have my list made and all ingredients bought at least 3 weeks before Christmas, so I escape the run-out-at-the-last-minute problems. 7 - Everyone else has great ideas about the meal. I'll try some of those next year! All of this helps to give my family a less-stress (working on stress free) holiday and puts us in a better Christmas spirit because we're not running around like crazy folks with last minute things....See Morechristinmk z5b eastern WA
