Comments (3)Two companies build lawn tractors for Sears: Husqvarna and MTD. The Husqvarna machines are identified by the numbes 917, followed by a dot, followed by the model number - 917.xxxxx. I would select one made by Husqvarna, as I believe them to be better machines than those made by MTD....See MoreWhat's your favorite Buck rose?
Comments (71)For Geo - Applejack: Large arching shrub rose, cane hardy, disease free with no spray, good rebloom and apple scented foliage. I have mine in an area that is planted with several albas and it fits right in. I never posted on this thread originally because I could never choose my "favorite" Buck rose. I love so many for so many different reasons! They're not all hardy and they're not all disease resistant...but the one thing I've learned from this forum is that to find out if they do well in your own garden you've got to try them. What one does in Texas does not translate to Michigan and visa versa. Anyway, FWIW here is a list of my best: Chorale Distant Drums Dorcas Earth Song Elias Golden Princess Grace Note Hi, Neighbor Honeysweet Iobelle Les Sjulin Mountain Music Paloma Blanca Pipe Dreams Prairie Star Prairie Sunrise Quietness Spanish Rhapsody Square Dancer Sunbonnet Sue Wild Ginger See? I couldn't even narrow it down to top 5! I'm hopeless, LOL. Anne Here is a link that might be useful: My Buck rose photos...See MoreTrue Story! I think I found a "lost" or "unreleased" Buck rose!
Comments (22)Kim, today I read your entire article on HMF "I am NOT an expert" but I have to disagree, you really are!! After reading up on Renae I'm convinced that's what this rose is like you said, except it doesn't seem to have a strong desire to climb. Of course that's just for me, in my climate with my horticultural practices. Southern Louisiana is a very specific climate to grow in. I do think it's a great place for me to carry out my lifelong breeding goals since if a seedling can survive Louisiana's black spot infested humidity and heat it'll be off to a good start! Thanks for the good luck Judith! Also to anyone interested and curious, I have ripening hips on a couple of roses with this rose, 'Renae' as the pollen parent: a few of (Smooth Ballerina x Renae) and a lot of (Thomas Affleck x Renae). I bet those seedlings will be smooth as silk! I can't wait to one day share my creations with everyone!...See MoreShortest Buck rose(s) suitable for edging rose bed
Comments (11)I've grown two of the Vigorosa series from Kordes, Innocencia and Emely. Both were short, very disease resistant and bloomed a great deal. This was in the southeastern US - it's rated to 6b by default on hmf, but may well withstand colder temps, being Kordes. Emely is one, I think that Pickering is phasing out, but I think it's still available from there. I grow Kordes' Cream Veranda and have found it to be very bs and mildew resistant here; very pretty bloom. hmf rates it to 6b but I notice that Celeste in New Hampshire grows it. New to me this summer, but I really like Tantau's Sweet Haze, which has a very pretty single pinkish bloom; Heirloom rates it to zone 5. I think hmf zone rating is in error, 8 to 9. What colors are you wanting?...See More- 13 years ago
