Rose 'Over the Moon' questions

Good morning,

I've see Over the Moon favorably mentioned here several times, and my favorite nursery has a couple nice specimens on sale. I thought I'd check and see if anyone in or close to my zone/area is growing it. My concerns are hardiness and disease resistance.

I did pick up a couple very nice Memorial Day roses at a nice discount ;)

I grow Over the Moon in a zone 7a in New England. If you plant the graft a few inches below the ground it should survive the winter. As far as disease resistance, it has beautiful clean foliage & not a spot of blackspot. The blooms are gorgeous & the repeat has been wonderful. I would grab one if I were you.

The buds on Over The Moon are just starting to unfold. I adore the color! I so hope this one does not fizzle in our Texas heat next summer. I am planting them in the fall so maybe the roots will have a chance to dig in. Shockwave looks just like the photos........all these plants are over the top healthy with loads of buds - still cant believe my luck at getting them so cheap! Ch-Ching is just starting to bloom - color seems a paler yellow than Shockwave. I like it, will look good with lavenders, corals. Cape Diamond has lots of buds but havent seen one bloom yet. I am wondering - is this a spreading bush or upright? Thanks...... Judith

Well, my climate is totally different than yours, but for what it's worth, I've grown Over the Moon for just one season. So far it has respectible, if not standout, bloom production, but the flowers it produces are wonderful, clear bright peach, with moderate fragrance. The bush seems pretty healthy; it's not yet a mature bush. Blooms last fairly well cut or on the bush, and it has handled hot, humid, weather as well as cooler weather, whether rainyor dry. I got mine hoping it would be a reasonable replacement for Just Joey, which though beautiful and fragrant, just didn't want to perform for me. I'm pretty satisfied with Over the Moon. Go for it. I can not actually comment on how tall it gets. Its been in my hands for only three months. However it is said to grow 4 to 5 feet. There is no noticeable pink that I can tell. It also has a fair amount of flowers for a Hybrid Tea Rose and the flowers hold very well As it grows I will keep everyone updated.

Me again.. is this a rose that looks best planted in a group/clump of 3, or is it a full enough plant to be appealing if planted as an individual shrub? I know I'm obssessing, and I admit to neuroticism..

I have it planted in a narrow bed of Hybrid Teas. I rarely plant in groups of 3, because the more variety the better. I think it gets enough blooms on it that one bush is enough.

Thank you for your help, dollsandroses. I picked up my rosebush yesterday, can't wait to see the blooms!

I bought 2 on sale a year ago....blooms are gorgeous, they are growing well and I love them!
