Blackspot & Morning/Afternoon Sun
Comments (14)Sandy, it's probably because it is not as humid here as it is in Florida, but my tea roses that are growing in morning shade and afternoon sun are wildly healthy. Even my hybrid musk growing in those sun conditions is very healthy. Hi, Sherry. I'm sorry to give you that report on Pink Gruss an Aachen. It's not really so much of a "blackspot" issue as it is a "yellow leaf drop" issue for PGaA. Not really ugly foliage, more of just a lack of foliage at times. BUT ... this is typical of my Pink Gruss roses here. They go through a few cycles during the year of that leaf drop, then, the next thing I know they are beautifully leafed out again. Overall, I love the rose, imperfections and all, and I don't try to compare its blackspot resistance to a china rose, which would be unfair to PGaA in this china-paradise climate of mine. Even though my PGaA's do lose some leaves at times during the year, its leaves are never as "eaten up" with true blackspot as, say, Paul Neyron. Comments (5)I'm not much of a fan of self watering containers. If the water gets hot the plants seam to die really fast. Some people really like them though so it may be just me. Its easier to care for tomatoes in really large containers. The smaller the container the more often you have to water and fertilize. You picked good varieties for containers though so if you watch them really close you may have good success. When I read the reviews on Bush Goliath it made me wish that I had planted some. Best of luck to you....See MoreMorning shade/Afternoon Sun

Comments (9)Couple of additional points: 1. I observed the spot (west/northwest corner of house) again in more detail; the site is in shade until 12:30, then sun til 4:30, then shade again. So 4 hours of sun. 2. I saw the endless summer at a reputable local nursery, the nursery's label (not the companies) said full to part sun. This seems strange because it significantly differs from everything else. 3. When I bought this house there was an old mophead either right there or nearby, I had to remove everything to do some re-grading of the yard. But I remember they were blue and I don't think reblooming. All that being said, perhaps it's better to go with a mini oak-leaf hydrangea at this spot? Are those easier to grow? thanks...See MoreUser
