Austin 'Windermere' -- does anyone grow?
Comments (3)This is another rose, like Bishop's Castle, that apparently is offered only by Jackson and Perkins. The picture in their catalogue looks lovely and I'm considering ordering this rose. Hopefully someone will respond who has actually grown it. Ingrid...See MorePotter and Moore, an Excellent Older Austin Rose
Comments (3)Pam, I also have Cottage Rose not too far from Potter and Moore. That's another older Austin that does well for me, even when it's hot. Newer is not always better. Ingrid...See MoreWould Like some Comments about the Austin Potter and Moore
Comments (0)I'll be posting this on the Antique Rose forum also since this seems to be such a little-known rose, and I'd like to reach as many rose growers as possible. I really liked the picture posted on the Rogue Valley web site and decided to try a rose that's completely unknown to me. I'd feel more comfortable if someone who grows this rose could tell me about it, good points and bad. I presume it's not the very best rose since no one is singing its praises, but just maybe it might like my garden. Ingrid...See MoreDoes anyone grow Maid Marion (the Austin rose)?
Comments (7)Hi MinaLoy Didn't want you to think we were ignoring your question, but Maid Marion isn't a rose that has a very wide distribution here in the US. I've never seen it offered in places I order roses, and helpmefind.com (a great source of rose info) only lists David Austin wholesale as a source here. I have about 50 Austins, but not this one. My impression is that this rose is likely to be your best bloomer of the three you list. My Gertrude Jekyll isn't in ideal conditions but in 3 years has never yet bloomed, and yes the reputation is for a lovely but infrequent bloomer. I've heard some of the same for Sister Elizabeth that hasn't bloomed for me either, but Maid Marion has some good reports. She's reported to stay small, so I think she'd be better in a pot than Gertrude Jekyll who gets long and lanky in many conditions. Hope this helps! Cynthia...See Moreingrid_vc so. CA zone 9
