FIrst, you need to WAIT. If you only planted these roses a month ago, they have not even settled in yet, no matter which roses they are. Make sure they have enough water, and leave them alone. I presume that the new growth you and blooming you are seeing is mostly not terribly long canes that are not terribly big around? When they really decide to climb (which may take many months or a few years), they will suddenly start putting out one or more larger, long canes. Sometimes this frightens people, the canes grow so fast and tall. At that point, yes, to get the most flowers you can GENTLY pull the canes to as horizontal as you can get them without damaging them, and tie the to the lattice. They will put out blooms all along their length that way, instead of just one at the top. Do post pics on here of the bushes and the blooms - someone will probably recognize them. Jackie

My Niobe was not red as shown in photos. So I am no longer a fan :-( and no longer have it. It was a deep magenta. I much prefer the color of Julia. Other Niobes in this area are the same color (same supplier?) My best combos happened when I kept the clematis potted until blooming; then tried it with different roses. Venus Violecea looked terrific with Royal Sunset (coppery orange). I had intended to pair it with pink.

List of roses that do well in hot humid conditions: Renae rose, thornless pink, climbing, idealy grown over fences, archways pegolas, lovely perfume. Crepsucule, low bushy growth, apricot flowers, ideal for low fences. Dutchess de brabant, climbing or shrub form, climbing variety ideal for tall fences. Sarah van fleet, rugosa rose, extremely thorny, great as a barrier. Mutabilis, large showy shrub rose. Cornelia, shrub of climbing rose good for fences. Madam issac pereire, large rose for fences, sheds or walls. Buff beauty, shrub - climber, found to be slow growing, needs good mulch and care, beautiful nodding blooms. Veilchenblau glorious coloured truss's of purply flowers, thornless rose, tolerates some afternoon shade, which also helps prevent the flowers from fading too quickly, thornless, though not a large grower. Carrabella vertally thornless, great for fences near walkways. Nahema is NOT hardy in my zone 5 .. died after 2 winters as own-root from Roses Unlimited. I successfully rooted Nahema, but it died recently in my unheated garage with temp. at upper 20's. Annie L. McDowell survives 2 winters for me since I planted it right below the rain spout so it gets constant moisture. Winter here is -30 below zero with wind-chill factor, and Annie dies to the crown every year. For its 3rd winter, this year, I plan on watering Annie during the winter in case we don't get any snow. Zero winter-protection except for a thin layer of leaves, it's on a steep hill so I can't pile up winter-protection. I planted Annie in a deep hole with MG-potting soil and topped with dense clay to seal in the moisture. Let's see if Annie survives its 3rd winter.
