And what about clematis? I want red. Has anyone grown Niobe? How about Mme. Julia Correvon? Do you think that reddish violet color would look good on an arbor with the pink climbing rose Renae? Okay. I'll turn off the computer now.

Renee, Niobe will look wonderful with a pink climbing rose! I had mine growing with Don Juan cl. red rose and heckrottii honeysuckle. While weeding, I accidently pulled out my Niobe, but hopefully it will grow out again next year.

Oh no, Eloise! I hope it grows back for you. I just went to Otto and Sons in Fillmore and bought Pinkie cl.(their Renae specimens didn't look that great). I'll get Niobe clematis asap and look forward to spring. I'm off to look up Heckrotti honeysuckle.

Ha ha...A dollar short and a day late. ha ha. You aren't asking for much there Moonie. Since Christmas is over perhaps we should all be writing the Tooth Fairy....I think I have extra teeth back there somewhere. ha ha. I'm glad you were able to get another greenhouse. Oh, please be careful of those. It is possible, if you cough enough, to lose consciousness for a few seconds. Happened to a family member a couple of weeks ago--he was driving on a major interstate, lost control of the car, shot across 3 lanes of traffic, bounced off the guard rail, shot back to the other side and ended up facing the wrong way. And he has NO recollection of what happened after he started coughing. Car was totalled, but luckily, he was okay, he didn't hit anyone else, and no one else hit anything trying to avoid him. I never realized how dangerous coughing could be, but the dr. says it's not uncommon for people to black out for a few seconds. Be careful! And hope you don't ever have a spell that bad.

My niece just re-did her house and put up barn doors from the family room to the children's rooms. They look great and move easily. She got the lumber from under an old barn owned by her dad (she is much braver than I. I would have been too concerned about spiders, and snakes, and lizards, oh my!) She and her husband own Ridgeland Specialty Hardware and they carry the barn door hardware. This is not an ad or spam...I get no more from letting you know this than I would get for recommending one of the big box stores. The link is below. My Niobe was not red as shown in photos. So I am no longer a fan :-( and no longer have it. It was a deep magenta.
I much prefer the color of Julia.

Other Niobes in this area are the same color (same supplier?)

My best combos happened when I kept the clematis potted until blooming; then tried it with different roses. Venus Violecea looked terrific with Royal Sunset (coppery orange). I had intended to pair it with pink.

Hi iris-gal, when I bought Niobe, it was because of the color, i.e., dark magenta. I hate when pictures are not true to the plant itself.

The best true red I have is Ville de Lyon, very free flowering. Al

Oooh, thanks for the heads-up on Niobe. I don't want magenta. I'll go with the Ville de Lyon and the Julia Correvon.
