I have this growing with a stepanotis and the added bonus is that Renae doesn't have thorns. It provides a beautiful entrance to your garden. Does the flower display last long? I find our hot days soon take their toll on the flowers.

I have found my renae outlasts any other rose in my garden, she just seems to flower and flower over weeks during spring and autumn and she even pops out some flowers through summer, yes she is completely thornless, have not seen a thorn on her yet anywhere, she also has the added benefit of never having to be deadheaded as she self cleans herself (sheds her petals, without leaving ugly looking dead flowers) which also looks lovely as the petals cascade over the ground, she's just breathtaking, I sit on my verandah and smell her scent and admire her beauty. I will recommend her to anyone.

After reading about your Renae, I wish I had bought her instead of New Dawn which seems to have enough thorns on it to form a sheild whenever I go near her.

Marion, you could plant new dawn elsewhere, but give her a lot of room, against a wall or on a fence, prehaps a sunny corner of your yard where there is not too much household traffic and then buy two Renae's next winter for your archway, she will either need to be ordered through your local nursery or she can be ordered from a specialist rose nursery which is what I did and they mailed them to me, bare rooted. Works out cheaper to buy more than one, due to the shipping prices. I cannot remember the place I got mine from, but if you dont know a place post a message in the rose forum asking others where they get theres from, that way you will get healthy plants, or if you dont want to wait let your fingers do the walking and ring around your local nurseries and see if they might have any in pots, though I wouldnt count in it, you would have to be very lucky, but is worth a try.

My Renae rose is full of flowers for the second time this year now being mid summer, its flowering almost as heavily as in the main thread picture taken in spring, I would say due to the amount of rain we have had here in Coffs Harbour. :)

List of roses that do well in hot humid conditions:

Renae rose, thornless pink, climbing, idealy grown over fences, archways pegolas, lovely perfume.

Crepsucule, low bushy growth, apricot flowers, ideal for low fences.

Dutchess de brabant, climbing or shrub form, climbing variety ideal for tall fences.

Sarah van fleet, rugosa rose, extremely thorny, great as a barrier.

Mutabilis, large showy shrub rose.

Cornelia, shrub of climbing rose good for fences.

Madam issac pereire, large rose for fences, sheds or walls.

Buff beauty, shrub - climber, found to be slow growing, needs good mulch and care, beautiful nodding blooms.

Veilchenblau glorious coloured truss's of purply flowers, thornless rose, tolerates some afternoon shade, which also helps prevent the flowers from fading too quickly, thornless, though not a large grower.

Carrabella vertally thornless, great for fences near walkways.

I grow these roses in my garden and I live in Coffs Harbour NSW, they all grow very well here.

I am in zone 6 (MA ) and I need 2 climbing roses. One for an arbr & 1 for a large oergola. I like Renae for the pergola, but can't find her anywhere! How big does she get? My pergola is 8ft tall & I want a rose that will grow & arch over the top. Ty

Whereabouts do you live, Ty? Are you in Australia or the US? Renae is a lovely rose but I haven't seen her grow very tall - actually more as a mounding shrub about chest high, that could be trained to fit any structure I would think. I'm just not sure if she'd be vigorous enough to really cover your pergola, if you want her to go right across the top to form a 'roof' - depending on how wide your structure is. Possibly better for the arbour? If you were to post your query on the Rose and/or Antique Rose Forum I think you would get lots of helpful suggestions re what roses and US suppliers to try in your area or by mail order, if you are still looking. Best of luck with your search. : )

Is this the same rose? Renae? It's an unnamed climber I bought at a fete, I posted it for an id. some years ago and nobody could be sure. I've still got it, a nice pink but it fades rather early, in just a few days. Though, reading back through the comments, mine's not thornless! On the query re New Dawn, I had it over a double archway in Sydney years ago and it flowered magnificently. It is a lovely climber, though needs space.

The flower looks very like Renae, although on my screen perhaps a little deeper/more intense in colour than I remember her. Is she generally paler in hot weather? Similarly, the foliage looks a little darker, but perhaps these are older leaves. Are most of the leaves a sort of fresh olive green? Slightly crumpled-looking? And do they have a sort of downward curving tendency, in each leaf, and in the way they are held, all weeping downwards rather? How prickly is your rose - just a few prickles on older wood with the newer canes smooth? If it's a yes to all these I'd say it is Renae.

Thanks comtess., I'll go take a look and a few more pictures. That photo I took a year or two ago when it was small, I've since moved it as I was a bit disappointed in its habit of fading early, so, I've put it in another, less conspicuous, area.

Hi Funnelweb, Yes, do post some more pics, if you can - I'm really curious now! Don't worry if no blooms at present, the foliage really is rather distinctive; we may well be able to nail the i.d. from that alone. The way Renae carries her foliage has something of the appearance of downward curving 'hands', while her buds, when they come, are held upwards in candelabra-like clusters. Quite distinctive. Long slender pliable canes of brown or green, should be quite smooth. By 'crumpled' I mean slightly puffy between the veins. And there may be medium-sized orange-yellow hips in autumn/winter.
