Is your Julia a young plant? I thought that she was pretty disease-resistant. Sometimes my younger ones have a problem in their first season or two; then they show their true colors.

Yes, Double Delight has some hinky foliage. What is it with this one, anyway? I'd describe it as daisy-like, or just plain awkward. It's not rampant throughout the shrub, but certain canes have it while others don't. Just a weird, weird rose for me. Luckily, it blooms pretty frequently, and the bling distracts everyone from looking at those leaves.

Marvelle sure is knocking my sox off too. I'm torn between cutting the blooms and taking them into work to show them off & leaving them here at home in the garden for only the 5 of us to admire.

Get that Gemini in the ground. I can't say enough good things about it. Slow repeat, but wow, is she worth it!

If anyone knows of mauves that don't turn into totally stubborn, delicate princesses that want to go bury their heads in a greenhouse, please let me know. I've been lusting after Nicole Carole Miller but if she's anything like my other mauves, I may as well shoot myself in the
"SUBMIT" button on my internet orders.

Sad List: Duchesse de Brabant and Mme. Joseph Schwartz - the weird weather has not agreed with them; little bloom and ugly, mildewed leaves

Graf Fritz von Hochberg - a very early and very wimpy hybrid tea

Yves Piaget - a beautiful although gangly rose that never recovered from the second gopher attack. Earth Song will take its place in October.

Ingrid, I love my DdB, but MJS has never been good here. Perhaps a bad clone?

I loved Quietness for years and still do the blooms, but in the last year she's leggy and blooms only at the top. Obviously, I'm not pruning her right.

My teas, Chinas and noisettes are all wonderful and make me happy.

Zyperis--This is my third go 'round with Double Delight. And I'm reminded once again why the nice lady at my favorite nursery always calls it "Double Disappointment." With you 100% on Bolero and Lady Emma, though.
Flaura--Maybe she's better in your part of the country, but here in southern California, Nicole Carole Miller has taken her "rightful" place as another in that looooong line of disappointing mauves. Don't shoot yourself in the Submit button--avoid the problem and just say no. Did you have any better luck with Barbra Streisand or Lagerfeld?
Ingrid--There are folks who swear by Yves Piaget. I just swore at him. A disease-riddled one cane wonder, I gave him three seasons before giving up on him. He sleeps with the shovels.

And Papa Meilland is probably going to join him this fall. What a supremely homely shrub, and so very stingy with blooms!

Too many to list as far as happys. But one comes to mind as far as sad goes. That one from Palatine called THE THANKSGIVING ROSE... pretty big blooms, but the plant is wracked with rust, and I "never" get rust!! I don't understand it.

LIVIN' EASY: Mine has a lot of blackspot, too, but it is a blooming machine. At first I started spraying it, but after reading here "don't spray for bs if the plant is blooming and otherwise healthy", I stopped. Still blooming beautifully.

Do you consider DISTANT DRUMS a "mauve"? At least "sorta? My Distant Drums are doing very well. Planted them as bare roots early this spring.

My ANGEL FACE is definitely a mauve --- just planted this year, and she is lovely. Strong, disease resistant.

Another "Happy": EASY DOES IT. Besides having spectacular blooms, they hold on longer than any of my other roses. (I'm still just starting and don't have very many, however). They'll hold their blooms for maybe 7 - 10 days. Now how good is that?

Miss Mary

Angel Face is notoriously susceptible to blackspot here, as is its offspring, Babs. They are both pretty, but I'm inclined to let them be pretty in other folks' yards.

Hard to find a good, true lavender that doesn't go kaput in the heat. Maybe that new Poseidon does well? I'd heard that Lagerfeld is a bit difficult here, but I may give it a go next year. Grandifloras are really growing on me lately.

I got Rainbow Niagara (Tropical Sunset, Marvelle) from Palatine and am definitely liking it! As it's establishing, I occasionally succumb to cutting a bloom or two. Red Intuition is another new one for me and I' liking it, too. Rose' is a great rose, producer from J&P.

Both have continued to be clean, healthy and bloom through the heat and drought.

A big surprise was Rose de Rescht gave me a second flush! It has never done that for me before. I might get a sporadic bloom here and there through the summer but this is a nice full flush!

To name just a few that have looked horrible all season so far. Elle's blooms literally melt in the heat. FiL just looks messy and wilty all the time. SR just hasn't done much of anything all season.

Most of the others are green but basically dormant in the heat. We did just get some really good rain storms the past few days so I'm hoping maybe I'll see some new growth start now.

Lol..I meant to say that maybe the NW IS not the place for Double Delight..

I have Elle..I forgot! She is a stick so far.
