I just collected seeds this month and have many packs of lanceleaf coreopsis (Coreopsis lanceolata) available. This garden treasure offers a profusion of blooms, is a perennial hardy in zones 4-9, and native to the eastern US. Provides cut flowers that last for an amazingly long time. When I dead-head my plants and throw the stems into the compost heap, the flowers continue to bloom and look fresh for days and days. A fantastic flower that provides nectar for butterflies and attracts many pollinators. It is easy to grow, but does require 30 days of cold, moist stratification. It can grow in full sun or part shade, in any soils, and is drought tolerant. Plants grow 1 to 2 1/2 feet tall. You can stratify seeds in the fridge, sow seeds in the fall, or winter-sow your seeds in the dead of winter. I am looking for trades of other natives of the eastern US. I'm not sure about Baby Sun, but Limerock Ruby is sterile, and does not produce seeds. Trades I've gotten for the Limerock seem to confirm this. I don't think any coreopsis produces fine seeds.

You'll know when the spent blooms start to crack open. It's a little tricky, but the ripe seed looks like ticks, which is why it's commonly referred to as tickseed. I test one every few days once I see spent blooms. I waste a few, but eventually figure it out. Each coreopsis looks different when it's ripe, and some may never set viable seed. Ripe seed should be black with white/tan wings. The orange/red version you have is much smaller seed than the large, Full Moon variety.
