Dynamite should be very good in your area, more bendable than Altissimo, a nice bright red and disease-resistant:

I have Dublin Bay and don't like it much. Little fragrance, flowers seem to dry up, stiff habit. I think I have a poor specimen--that might be the problem.

Cl. Crimson Glory has always appealed--anyone grow that?

I'm partial to Dublin Bay, as my user name indicates. I love its red red that doesn't fade to some other color. It blooms and reblooms with fairly good regularity, and it has few disease problems.

I recommend it--but it does have some problems wrapping around my obelisk unless I get around to doing it while the canes are young and still flexible--but that is true of many other climbers also.

I just got Martha Gonzales, a short climber, single, repeat bloom. HMF has pics of the one that isn't a climber. It has small leaves and is supposed to be very disease resistant. I got mine from Ashdown.
Others have recommended Chevy Chase, Fields of the Wood, and Cramoisi Superieur. Of those, I prefer the color of the latter- but at HMF there is considerable difference between the shrub and the climber. I wouldn't expect there to be any difference in the bloom color. Brandy

I totally agree with Kate..Her pics and advice was why I decided to grow "DublinBay" in my gardens and I am amazed at the beauty of this rose..it blooms in sprays and they hold their color and form for quite a long time..VERY disease resistant and absolutely NO BS in my no spray garden..what a winner!@!...

Dublin Bay does fairly well in PNW. Have you taken any trips to the rose gardens in the Portland area? The Washington Park garden usually has some climbers growing. There is another garden down at Heirloom roses near St. Paul. It would be a good idea to see how they look in a local public garden so that you have an idea as to what they look like because when taken care of properly they can look even better in a private garden. Many roses have differing growth habits in different areas of the country. You can also get an idea of ultimate size. It's worth a trip.

My parents have a cabin near me in WA, and they have a Blaze that gets virtually zero care. It is covering a trellis that is very large and it is constantly covered in trillions of blooms. It is also a very pretty flower! I took cuttings of it and am trying to start a couple of plants for my own garden, I liked it so much.

Dublin Bay was actually a replacement for another red climber that the vendor didn't have. Now I have four DBs.Different zones, different performance I suppose.

I have had this rose for such a long time and I truly think it is a Don Juan and seems very bendable. Mine doesn't apprear to be all that dark, but here's a picture. I have several red climbers, but I'm almost sure this one is the Don Juan. I don't have any that are darker.

Thank you very much for your advices and pictures. It looks like Dublin Bay is a very strong candidate. Blaze, Dynamite and other are also interesting.

Does anyone grow "All Ablaze"?
It has interesting parents, Don Juan and Trumpeter. I have seen Trumpeter in Rose Garden in Portland, always covered with many orange red flowers.

The Portland's Rose Garden has three red climbing roses, Dortmund, Don Juan and Altissimo. Dortmund is impressive there, but the other two roses looks mediocre.

The rose on the last picture may be Don Juan -- my has the same grow habbit, but is darker (almost maroon color), and some of the flowers turn black before opening. Does anyone know why?

I just planted a couple of All Ablaze about 6 weeks ago. They are young & own-root but are putting on a pretty impressive show of cane growth at this point. No flowers yet though.
