Comments (4)Put overhead and western shade over it first leaf if this is on the south or west side. You won't have to bother with overhead shade next leaf as it hardens off, though western shade may be a good idea for the 2nd leaf. Keep in mind as well that with sandy soil you may need to water frequently, using multiple emitters around, or just outside the canopy line but not for long to reach that 3 foot depth. The tips look like salt burn/underwatering. Salt burn would be unusual in sandy soil unless you have been fertilizing. But since it looks like it is on new leaves I am thinking iron deficiency. I am interpreting it from a close up photo without seeing the whole tree or knowing whether it is localized to an area of the tree. I do not know how common iron deficiency is in your area. In my area iron deficiency is almost always due to high pH but in your soil it may actually be lack of iron. Either way initial treatment is with chelated iron (preferably Fe-EDDHA). If high pH is the cause then adding soil sulfur and building up the organic content of the soil over time with a surface mulch is the cure. Comments (1)It sounds like Marssonina leaf spot. A common fungus that can be transferred one season to the next on fallen leaves. We have had Marssonina on some our Aspens the second year after planting but not since. It was visible earlier in the season if you inspected the leaves closely, but does not really show large spots until late summer and by Fall you are happy to see the remaining leaves come off the trees. Comments (11)regardless of where you live.. didnt fall start last week??? and it was recently transplanted ... and its a largish plant ... its stressed ... and finally.. its a deciduous tree ... the stresses are making it shut down a bit early ... i am presuming this is a eastern redbud.. Cercis canadensis ....of which i am familiar... if not.. then my answer might change .... i only mean to point out that your use of a common name can lead to confusion .... so use of the latin name would make it specific .... one of the reasons trees are planted dormant ... is that you dont have leaves to worry about on deciduous trees .... or they are dormant on evergreen plants .... either way.. you usually just dont have to look at something like this.. and then worry ... anyway.. just water deeply and properly with near drying before repeating ..... and see what happens .... see link on watering ... since it deciduous.. there is no use spraying anything on leaves that are going to fall off this time of year ... imo ... ken https://sites.google.com/site/tnarboretum/Home/planting-a-tree-or-shrub...See MoreEureka Lemon Tree - browning tips/yellowing leaves
Comments (4)Those yellowed leaves look like older leaves, in which case this is normal. If you are worried about salt buildup, flush the soil with plenty of water, perhaps 5 gal. How often one needs to water depends on, among other things, the nature of the soil mix and the amount of rain that falls. In my case, during the summer, I water only the trees in 5-1-1 mix about once a week and the ones in gritty mix about twice a week....See Morevalleymagpie
